OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Munchinmom we just found out tonight our daughter has a stress fracture in her leg, all she told us was she now won't go to PIR until a month later. We are so sad she worked so hard to get where she is at. She was transferred to ship 4 do you know when they have PIR?

HI everyone, I forget where to go to book a shuttle for Sarge for pick up at the airport. Can anyone help me.  Thanks

Comment by munchkinmom on September 17, 2013 at 10:21pm

well, it seems I will be delayed in seeing my daughters PIR on the 11th.  She has stress fractures, we weren't given any more information than that.

sailorsgirl:  Also, if someone staying at RTC doesn't fly out until Sunday, they will have Daytime Liberty on Saturday.

Comment by diannep on September 17, 2013 at 8:08pm

munchkinmom:  That is why we encourage all to answer calls even if not from the 847 area codes---I know you missed this one totally because you didn't hear it....  There are other Chicago area codes that sometimes are called from---although 847 is the most common.  Hoping the next call from your SR is successful and you have a nice visit!

Comment by diannep on September 17, 2013 at 8:06pm

sailorsgirl:  That is correct.  If staying in GL for A School, those sailors will get "Daytime Liberty" with family.  They must return to A School base each night.  They move over there shortly after PIR which takes a few hours, then are ready to start Liberty.

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on September 17, 2013 at 5:53pm

Feliciackm, if they fly out on Saturday, no matter what time, they still go to the airport in the wee hours of the morning. If they do have to wait to fly out on Sunday then they normally get liberty on Saturday with their family :)

Hi Friends,

"The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord,

and He delights in his way.  Though he fall,

he shall not be utterly cast down,
