OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

My son is Div 820 and I received letters yesterday:) He mentioned that 10 people in his division went to get their wisdom teeth pulled and he was one of them! He didn't like getting placed on bed rest or whatever that is called and was looking forward to getting active again. He said that the division is learning to work together. I guess the fact that they got to send mail on Sunday and also were able to make their first call home this past week shows definite progress:) My son's letter was positive and upbeat:) I still would love to meet the mom whose son has initials AB and lives in Texas! If that is you send me a quick pm!

I got a letter today, My son says he loves his division and "tighty whities" suck. LOL I can see the change in him already from the first letter I got. The Navy lingo is really coming out in his letters now. I'm a happy momma today.

I think we will get letters tomorrow due to the holiday. I got a call Monday so I know my SR wrote me. It will be my first letter so I am not sure how long it really takes for the delivery to my city yet, only that it will probably take one day longer this week than it may on other weeks.

No letter!   Very disappointed,  tells you how I feel.  If anyone gets a letter from Ship 12 Div 387  let me know how your SR is doing.
