For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by boocoo on October 9, 2013 at 11:30pm: Here's what my son told me in a FB message today. He coudn't even call he said. There were no phones available.

So last night we didn't do battle stations because the government didn't have enough money to pay the civilian workers there. We will still get liberty and graduation on friday but it won't be a real graduation ceremony UNLESS we get time to reschedule battlestations BEFORE the alloted graduation time. Long story short. We reschedule battle stations for tonight = legit graduation. Battle stations is after friday graduation is just for you guys.

They have to do BS before they can ship to A schools. So yes, everyone, please pray they got to do BS tonight. We don't even know????

I thought that everyone doing the training was military based on what I read on the RTC site how training wouldn't be affected. Not a good surprise at all.

I am so angry with our government right now, you have no idea. These young men and women have worked soooo hard and come all this way, only to have this happen now? It's disgusting!!!

Comment by boocoo on October 9, 2013 at 8:23pm: They are trying to re-schedule BS for tonight or tomorrow night. They will graduate on Friday "for real" if they do BS. If not, they will go through the graduation and have liberty, then have to go back to the base and do BS before they "officially" graduate, then fly out to A schools. So please pray they get to do BS tonight, preferably.

Not sure who will be running things on Thursday if that is who they were originally counting on. Great that they are not going to let this effect the SR's. Not there fault.

Comment by doubletrouble on October 9, 2013 at 7:34pm: The recruits were told they are trying to get them rescheduled for tonight or Thurs & if it is Thurs they will not be able to march in PIR, they will have to sit in the stands. But at least they will still graduate & we will get to see them! We actually have 2 at bc right now, twins! One has completed bs & is a Sailor!
