OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Thank you Jen and diannep!  Yes, I've listened to the VM many times already : )

Mandy:  Had to laugh at your post "weeny sopost" which I THINK meant "weren't supposed"....sometimes those phone posts are just too funny!  :-)

Ladies in the 800 division:  Why not include an extra letter in the next letters to your SRs and ask them to pass it out to one of the SRs not receiving mail?  They will so appreciate it!  If your SR can give you names, you can actually address it to that SR so that their name is called out in Mail Call.  That would put a huge smile on their faces!

SRWyattCorpsmanMom:  Sigh....so sorry you missed the call...but glad that you got the voicemail....to listen to over and over again!  :-)

He said they will all be calling soon to update their background checks. Anyone they used as a reference will need an updated address and ph# so get ready to dig up that info again

phxsusan Oh, that is the saddest thing I've heard in a long time. My son is in div. 820 and I so badly want to talk to him. I pray daily  for them all to stay strong and work together. Thank you for sharing the info with us.

Div 820 -   I just got a 20 min call !!   He won it in a contest.  The next time they are scheduled for the phone bank is 9/5.  They lost the last chance as the inspection found 7 blankets folded incorrectly.  He sounded upbeat and says they are pulling together ( 80 of them ) but the kids that don't get letters feel left out.

srwyattcorpsmanmom my heart breaks for you.  On the bright side he said he was dong fine. Don't be to hard on yourself can you imagine what it was like in the days with out  voice mail? At least you heard his voice.

Phone glued to my hand and hip ALL day.  Ran to pick up my daughter from a birthday party and MISSED the what could have been 10 minute call!!!  I did get a 7 second voicemail saying he had received my letters and was doing fine and will be able to send mail tomorrow.  I am trying not to beat myself up about this. So ladies, please share any news received that you can!  11/383
