OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

WeeBee's Mom, you needed your own special happy, happy, happy post.

Just booked Navy Lodge until Sunday.  My daughter is flying in Thursday night from college, I think I am going to have the Airport Shuttle take her to hotel.

I guess her return flight will have to be Sunday, because we don't know when they leave. Is anyone else at this point flying into O'Hare in the evening?

Lala Ribbon Queen- I pray your mother is doing better.

WeeBee's Mom- Yay.. You got your letter and the information match. That is great. It would have been terrible to not know if your letters made it to the right Division or not. So glad everything worked out.

Jen- I am waiting and waiting for a personal letter to know if he is feeling and how he is doing but I am not sure if I can handle him being sad or upset. Saturday's phone call sounded very upbeat despite the swollen ankle so I hope he still sounds upbeat when and if, he writes me.

I am stalking the mailman this week.

Heymomlpn... I am so so sorry about your SR. Praying for you and him. I'm curious... What day did he arrive at GL? I just wonder if my son has passed medical. So many unknowns :(

heymomlpn - I feel so bad for your SR and you the loving mother.  I am curious though if this was a medical issue that they knew about and cleared or something they found once he got there ?  I am anxius to hear if my son made it through the medical part as he was cleared to go.  I know no news is good news but still hoping for the best.

I GOT IT, I GOT IT, I GOT IT, I GOT IT!!!!!! Everything we thought is correct, Ship 12, Div 388, Address I sent the letters to is right and he addressed the letter to "Mom". In our weird language, that means he's fine. Thank you SO much for standing beside me and lifting me up :)

Comment by NausetMom on August 28, 2013 at 4:26pm

Does anyone know if Weebee got her letter today???  I hope so

Comment by NausetMom on August 28, 2013 at 4:25pm

heymomlpn, very sorry it did not work out for your son, I hope he gets well and is able to reenlist if chooses to do so.  Good luck to him, and thank you for your support and we will still be here in 2 years for you
