Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by Smile09 AD/HM Mom on October 3, 2013 at 4:43pm: Thanks Sheisa! Emily - ewwww, that is about how it was with our son's car as well. My husband cleaned it out the day after he left for BC. There was a FULL load of laundry to be done just from his car. I am still picking away at the box of stuff that was left in there. Yes, he is a list-maker like his mama. I had him clean out his closets, drawers, under the bed etc before he left. He has only left stuff he wants to keep. It's still a lot of stuff, however. I haven't had the gumption to wade through his room yet.

My son just walked out the door and left everything like he would be back in a bit... I highly doubt he made a list!! Haha. I had to use his car today because mine was at the dealers, and his gym bag with dirty work out clothes was still on the floor from the morning he left!!! Ewwww!! Hope the mailman was generous to all you ladies yesterday and today!!!

How do I find the FB page you guys are on?

We are trying to put together a "watch party" for the livestream and wondering if you have to watch it "live" or if it stays on the link and you can watch it at a later time? Also, my daughter's letter last night said "I have no idea what PIR is..."

Comment by Smile09 AD/HM Mom on October 3, 2013 at 2:22pm: I just was making a list of things to bring and do before we leave for PIR. Apparently I was using the same notebook as my SR had used for his list prior to leaving for BC. One of the items on his list was "hug mom." SNIFF!
