N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Edie ! So glad to hear that you had a great time. I've been catching up on all of your good suggestions. Rest up.

I think I'm going to some research on these airports so I know where we are going. When we travel I do the navigating and my partner does the driving. If I don't give him good directions and we get lost, we will get into a spat. I will have to pay close attention at the Meet & Greet.

That reminds me sarge might be the one to get the directions to o'hare airport. Their is train your take to the airport from the parking lot. We did not realize u needed to take a train to airport and parked far a way from my gate 2 thank. Goodness their was a train

Everyone,

I agree with Edie that you should get your directions before you arrive at Great Lakes.  I went on Google and printed out the turn-by-turn directions from the airport to the hotel, hotel to restaurant, hotel to airport to see Sailor off, between the 2 airports (just in case).

After you pull up the directions, click Print, then on the top of that page is Show for all Steps, click "Maps", then the turn-by-turn directions pop up and you can print them.  Sometimes your GPS on your phone may not work right or the battery will die, or those GPS navigators you buy are just plain unreliable.  I like to be prepared!

Six dollars to ice skate
Comment by Edie on October 21, 2013 at 4:02pm
Yes we were all beat. But was worth every minute.
Yes they have an ice skating rink in Gurnee mall. Called rink side took the family their adults played laser tag and me and my little one played video games. Laser tag wasn't worth six bucks but my family enjoyed it.
Put put had a sweet set up but nothing hard.

Edie...I hear the families are just as tired as the Sailors at the end of the weekend. Thanks for the additional info. I'm programing my navigation before we leave and I will have backup maps. I hear there is a ice skating rink at the Gurnee Mall?

You are more then welcome.
Also would like to let everyone know that if you have never been to ohare airport and are traveling by car to see your sailor off try and make sure you find how to get their before hand our tom tom had us under a darn bridge and dead end streets. My boyfriend who hates being lost is mad and me who is upset cuz I think I'm going to miss out on seeing my sailor off. Gets their 30 min after my sailor does. Got so lost couldn't tell u the best way to get their with out wasting time. So plz don't depend on your tom tom try and find out how to get their before hand. Also find out gate number before hand. I'm not use to that big of air port so it didn't dawn us to ask my sailor that ? My sailor had to borrow a phone to ask where we at then his friend let my son borrow his phone until we got their. Thank goodness
