Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

There is no change fee if you use points on United, but by the time you change the number of points needed for the new flight may be higher.

Rick, I started a new discussion about the towns where the Navy schools are located. I started with San Antonio for you. I would love to know about Charleston, SC.

Comment by flowers on October 6, 2013 at 11:03am: Hi Everybody! My boyfriend was in the PIR Group 11-22-13, but I received a phone call yesterday and he has been moved to 11-15-13 PIR. So I believe this is my new group! He is in ship 04 division 801. Anyone else in the same place?

Comment by Jrmom on October 6, 2013 at 10:34am: Diannep, my son told us midway! So I checked southwest n the airfare was over 300.00 per person! N we have 6 people going! It was a little out of our price range! So I hope it doesn't get changed! I was so concerned getting us all booked on the flight together, n there was only one flight in n out Thursday n Sunday! I'll keep my fingers crossed!!

Sure wish I had booked with them when my son was at bootcamp....he was delayed a week and I already had my flights....paying 2 change fees was NOT FUN! They fly into both Milwaukee (shorter drive to GL and usually cheaper)and Chicago-Midway.

Hmmm....on the scheduled calls on Wed. I would be prepared at all times for calls....my sons' calls came at all different times when he was there. Just know that your phone needs to be glued to you now, even when stepping out to get mail and in the bathroom!

Hope that those who missed the calls will get them soon!

Rick: Looks like from Houston to San Antonio is about 2 hr 50 min or so !

I have no problems here when it comes to pop ups, but sometimes it is slow to put up my posts. Most of the time it is "instant."
