For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by diannep on September 25, 2013 at 6:31pm: AngiesMom: Just because they were in MEPS together wouldn't necessarily mean they will be in the same divisions. A division can have guys/girls in the same division, but they are in separate barracks. There are also all-male divisions and occasionally all-female divisions (rare so far).

Do they separate them by sex and then put them in different DIV? Our recruiter is on maternity leave, so I have no one to ask these question!

Comment by ellen0502 on September 25, 2013 at 6:15pm: AngiesMom, The divisions are filled in numerical order through the Navy fiscal year. Your daughters division is the second division for this Navy Fiscal year, and this TG is the first.

Comment by CatMom509 on September 25, 2013 at 5:16pm: Pensacola was great for my IT daughter!! Well, the humidity and raining all the time wasn't fun. She focused on her studies, got #2 in her class, and earned a promotion to Petty Officer 3rd Class!!

The thing is some Sailors and alot of Marines don't observe the rules regarding drinking and prohitbited activities during liberty. A few rule breakers earn the entire barracks phase back down to having to wear uniforms all the time and limited liberty. It really is the behavior each individual that affect the group as a whole, so the Sailors--and Marines--should be looking out for each other so everyone can be enjoying their time there. It is really sad that you see the Marines in their uniforms there all the time...

Comment by ellen0502 on September 25, 2013 at 12:50pm: I2xMilitaryMom, I have not heard of a phone card not working on base, just make sure it is a card that can be used at any pay phone with no restrictions.

Comment by 2xMilitaryMom on September 25, 2013 at 12:38pm: My step-sons recruiter told us not to buy phone cards at home because they may not work in the payphones at base, so we didn't send him with any cards. I wanted too but he said no.

Comment by diannep on September 25, 2013 at 12:32pm: Just make sure to get phone cards that have about 250+ minutes on them since using the pay phones takes a lot of minutes to connect. My son's actually "died" in the middle of a call with me...but thankfully he was near the NEX then so was able to buy another one and call right back.
