LOL! Kendra, my poor son then.  He is about 5'5, guess he is like a giant to your daughter.

I tried Orbitz and I'm not finding that price at all, might be because I'm flying out of Portland Oregon.  The cheapest we have for flights is 350 by itself.  And I will have to rent a car unless I can figure out the Metra line in Chicago.  So many things to figure out.  LOL.

I really am happy with the prices I got on Orbitz u can't beat $375 a person including flight/airfare/hotel for 4 nights! Trick is to fly out from a major city to O'Hare... I am thinking of choosing the super 8 hotel it is cheaper and still close to the base :) Thank ya'll again for all the support! Megan says mom I'm a stick! I asked what a stick was and she said ask my Aunt! I asked and she didn't know so she asked around and a stick is the shortest person in the company that carries the flag! My Meg is about 5'2 LOL

Jenn:  You will like Residence...that is where we stayed. Being a S. FLA girl heading up there in Feb 2010, I also worried about driving in the snow.  Had my very able older son with me, but still....I will say that they are great about keeping the roads cleared in that area and we had no problems!

That's great Kendra!
Thanks for sharing info too!

Kendra - I'm so happy for you.  I'm glad she's sounding better.  I know that her first letter sounding so down was tough.  Good to know they are moving toward shooting and fire fighting - I think my SR will really like that.  LOL about everyone's first name being "seaman recruit" - I was thinking about that this morning.  I wanted to know if he knew any of my new friends kids but I wasn't sure how we would figure it out since we only know first names and they only know last names.  LOL  We'll have to give them a code in a letter.

Oh man that's awesome Kendra!  I'm so happy you got a call, now we know even more than what we did.  I'm glad they are getting mail already, we have been sending Cody mail for a while now, hopefully he got it too.

I got a call today from Megan!!! She needed info for security purposes! Oh my God how awesome it was just to hear her sweet voice say Mommy I love you! She says things were rough at first but it's starting to get easier and they are gonna learn to shoot guns and fire fight... She was happy about that! Since we don't know each others last name when I asked about some first names but she says everyone's first name is "seaman recruit" hahaha I feel tons better hearing her giggle! She said mom thank you for all the letters the first mail came and there was like 10 pieces and she got 6 and then there was a few others who had like 1 a piece.. She said encourage EVERYONE to send us mail! They did make fun of her a little for having a big stack of mail but she just told them.. "I'm a lovable kinda girl" that she is!!!!

ok - I have been spending way too much time today on the computer going back and forth trying to decide where to book.  Price vs. location vs. ease of travel --aagghhhhhh!  I think the biggest worry for me is driving in the snow - being a SoCal girl for the past 20 years I haven't had to deal with that much so everywhere I look I keep thinking - how hard would it be if it was snowing.  I finally ended up booking at the Residence Inn in Waukegan.  I almost ended up with you Diana in Mettawa - and may still change it.  But Waukegan is a little closer to base - although it was $10 more than the rate that Diana got.  The VERY nice agent I spoke with - who thanked me for my son's service - put me in under the PIR group rate - which ended up being more than the best available rate that they had - so I asked if I could just book all 4 days under the best available - got it for $99/night.  I was trying to stay under that but just started getting overwhelmed with the whole thing.

Yah Jenn!  Glad you finally got your letter, amazing how a few pieces of paper can make your day.  :-)  I really love the Thanksgiving ideas, I will not have my husband or other family because we just couldn't afford for the whole family to fly out so it will only be my sons fiance and I.  Wow, Orbtiz sounds great, I might check into that and see what it would be from Oregon.

One more note: Maybe we should just try to find a place for a large group T-day dinner - whoever of us, our sailors, and most likely a few more sailors with no family around. Later today, I'll start a separate discussion for T-day dinner plans so we don't have to sort through all these other messages. It would be easier than trying to squeeze into one place and haggle with cooking. I love the idea of a massive group of sailors with families and new friends sharing a meal together (<insert> huge grin)

Anyway, look for that discussion tab and we can share places, prices,etc.....
