Here's a little video from my favorite Thanksgiving show.
May you all have a Blessed day!
I know it's hard Jo...trust me ...I do. It's hard enough missing your man...and then having the ones that have been a part of your life, just not get "it". They just won't. Hopefully there will be some that will stick by you and be your friend...that doesn't mean they'll "get it", but they're there. And yes...it's a blessing to have this site and these ladies on here.
I always wondered why my son enlisted and was gone in three weeks...no DEP...God knew what I needed. I was in a great Bible study on learning how to be a better wife, had a couple of great books on deployment (hubby deployed to Iraq a couple of months before our son enlisted in the Navy), but he knew I needed people to connect with. People that "got it". So...N4M's!
Yeah...it is possible! My husband had two weeks of training before he left the country. There was a week between the end of training and deployment date. Well...there's some rule about not getting sent home unless there is a ten day lag time...they had seven. So, they were going to sit in a hotel room across the country during Christmas. They got it ammended and came home! I was like "YAY" and "NOOOOO", because I was going to have to say good bye all over again. I am so thankful that I was able to be happy for the time we had together...but I'll tell you all a secret...I spent my last night holding him while he slept and cried for a little while. HOW was I going to let him go? I really didn't have much "choice" in the matter...but you know what I mean! Next day we texted all the way until he boarded the plane!
I'm sorry you feel lonely dear. It's normal, just don't "stay" there. I know you'll be happy when you see him again before he goes off to "A" school. He's going to need your continued support while he's learning his job. It's amazing how much they rely on our support. It's what gives them the strength to get through.
We're here to support you through!
All right, I lied. I'm sitting here in tears. I don't want to have to let him go AGAIN. Two days (not even) is nowhere near enough time. I guess on the plus side I can skype and text Matt like I used to before the NAVY.
I also feel like this is the only place I'm understood; the overwhelming majority of my friends don't even bother trying to. I feel like somehow this is a journey I'm forced into all on my own because they won't even try to understand where I'm coming from.
My mom, despite how much I love her, is the worst one of them all. She just adds more stress (especially trying to guilt trip me into being at thanksgiving with my family instead of matt's) and I don't know how to politely tell her to just...leave me alone for a while.
So here I am. I didn't think it was possible to feel more lonely AFTER seeing Matt than before. Apparently it is.
Aw Jo...I'll bet your Matt did look stunning in his blues. They all did!
As for the airport thing on Friday - my Sailor didn't know exactly where they'd be dropped off as it sounded to her like a harried thing...much like when the group left MEPS in San Diego - they were bussed to the airport and dropped off at their airline spot and were on their own from there. Sadly, I don't think the timing will work for us. We fly out at 6:20pm Friday from Midway. We all decided to say our goodbyes Thursday at drop off time and ship the things she'll need as soon as she settles in P'Cola.....unless it works to hand off her cell to Tiffani whose son flies out with her.....
Talk to your sailor tomorrow and see if they know exactly the airline and departure time. Supposedly you can get a special pass from the airline to see them off but they'll need to be with you from my understanding. You will still have to go through airport security as if you were a passenger......
This chica's tired. I'm picking my poo up at 0700 - letting her shower and breakfast in my room and then off to see the city sights if she's up to it. I don't care what we do - I just wanna see my baby again...
As for taking the train into Chicago - anyone else doing that Thursday? I was thinking we'd probably try to catch the 9/9:30amish train in so we can get back in plenty of time - like be back to the GL station by 5/6pm the very latest....
Thank you veteran moms for all your help & support. You have helped me so much to understand this foreign language of the Navy. One more question - if the Sailors leave for the airport at 0030 Friday morning, do we have to meet them when they get there or can we get there later and meet them? and where do we meet them?
I'm still trying to process everything that's happened today; for now, two things.
1) Matt is breathtaking in his dress blues. I couldn't find words to describe how he looked to my mom. Every time i look at him (photo or otherwise) it leaves me speechless.
2) I'm still in disbelief that I am engaged to a legitimate US NAVY Sailor.
