WELCOME TO PIR 11/20/2012

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I got a letter today so happy......

FINALLY got a letter from my son. He is missing home more than he thought. Kind of struggling to stay positive after this past summer. A month after his HS frautation one of his good friends was killed in a 4-wheeler accident, then a month later my sons girlfriend & her little brother were killed in a car accident 10mins after he had talked to her. Then 2wks before he left for bc my dad, his grandpa passed away. I already wrote a letter back to him letting him know how very proud all of them would be of him right now. Cassie would have wrote him every day & grandpa would have been bragging to EVERYONE about his grandson thats in the Navy. He is a smart, strong & very determed young man & we all have faith in him that he is going to make one great sailor.

I just got a phone call! My daughter said they were allowed 20minutes to talk and some get an extra call if they did well on their test. I am so excited!

Mine asked me to send a tablet. They are given paper and those who don't write a lot probably won't run out. YOu could send a couple pieces of paper in with each letter if you are worried about sending paper. My rule for myself is when in boot camp don't send anything they don't ask you to send except maybe contact lenses and stamps or a calling card. And if they ask or even beg for an airhead because it is flat and they might not get caught don't do it lol. They are just desperate for sugar so tell them to eat cereal instead :-) BAHAHAHAHA

Your Recruits receive a NEX card with about $150.00 - $200.00 ( comes out of their pay) to use for necessities while in BC. So, they really do not need cash. But that is a sweet thought :-). Now, I have seen some ask for cash but have never found out why?!
You can send some writing paper and see if it is allowed...each RDC is different. I'll let the other veteran moms chime in on that one!

They can buy paper but again only when they are allowed a NEX trip and just don't know how often that is.

This was just posted:
U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command Facebook friends,

an announcement for 30 NOV PIR: There will be FIFTEEN divisions graduating Nov. 30th. RTC is abiding by the policy that Active Duty/military retirees and children twelve and under do not count toward the 4 invitations each recruit receives. However, if an individual is not on the access list they will NOT be able to enter the drill hall (NO stand by). Please plan on arriving at least two hours before the ceremony, which begins promptly at 9 a.m. Thanks to all for your continued support of Recruit Training Command, the Navy's only boot camp!

My SR said he is trying to conserve paper, so if I sent him paper could he use it? Also could I send him cash (like $10 or $20)? He also asked for stamps which I know I can send him because my mom sent him some and it was the one on my letter today. I'm not sure if he is trying to conserve paper and get stamps because they only give him so many or because he has to buy them and he only brought $50 with him.
