OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

This PIR group is one of the lucky ones who can leave for Thanksgiving with family members, etc.  The later PIR groups who will be early in their training will have a Thanksgiving dinner on the base (my son was in that group the year he was in).

Also, there are churches, etc in the area who are wonderful about taking busloads of the SRs to share Thanksgiving dinner with them.  Then they will post piks of the, sometimes post videos...and they allow them to use their cell phones to call anyone they like!  It is wonderful!  Again, the very new SRs will not be allowed to do this.

I wish I could make it out to take my husband for the day. :( Been a rough couple of days.

The good thing is that those who have family that cannot come (and most cannot) they have many many churches and different organizations who fix huge Thanksgiving dinners for the recruits. Many of the people in charge let them use their cellphones to call their families. They are so happy to get off that base and be able to relax a little bit :-)

I know I can't be there but would like to send money to help pay for a SR dinner to somebody that is adopting a SR for Thanksgiving.

Where do you get this paperwork? Do you think I would be able to sign out my boyfriend?

Comment by Dena on October 22, 2012 at 8:15pm
TammySue what hotel did you find with the Thanksgiving Buffet? Just in case I can work something out to get in the area?

I hope they are able to the adopt-a-sailor for our recruits. I know that is one of the things my daughter was looking forward to!

We live in CA so no way we can make it for Thanksgiving. So happy to hear that my SR will get to spend it with someone, even if it won't be me. Still no letter... :(
