Thanks Diannep. Bummer. We forgot about it. He will be very disappointed. But, next time, he will be registered.
I don't believe so, trevorsmom. Registering to vote is an individual thing. If he was registered and had applied for an absentee ballot before he left, you could have forwarded the absentee ballot to him at bootcamp and he could mail it in. But you can't apply for the absentee ballot for him (he has to sign the application).
I am not sure if my son registered to vote. I received an absentee ballot application in the mail but it is not for active military. Do they have an opportunity to register to vote when they are sworn in at MEPS or anything?
Oh yes he did PIR Sept 28 so that makes sense
If his PIR is in late Oct then he is still training and has not graduated yet. They normally fly out the day after PIR but it can sometimes take longer depending on available flights and other circumstances. I know there were some who had PIR in September who were on hold there because of other issues. The A-school may have too many waiting for classes to begin and not have room for new ones arriving so they would then hold them at RTC.
Question my sons friend PIR in late Oct he is still in GL why would they keep and not send to A school in San Antonio they both Joined to becorpsman my son will PIR nov 30???
Sailors mom I would go ahead and send an absentee ballot. Election day is very quickly approaching (thanks goodness) I am so tired of all the phone calls lol
Wow, 15 divisions!!! What an amazing site that will be. I would go ahead and make hotel reservations as soon as possible. If you call the hotels direct let them know you are coming for PIR and most offer a discount for that. They will use your credit or debit card to reserve the room but won't charge it or put a hold on it until you check in at which time you can pay with cash if you choose to do so. Most of the hotels there will allow you to cancel or change your reservation right up to the day you arrive with no cancelation fee at all. So it is safe to go ahead and book your room now. Because weather can get tricky and airports do sometimes have flight delays or cancellations try to leave or go as early as you can just in case. If it were me i would go a day early. We have seen families flying out on Thursday who were stuck in airports in TX and other places because of cancellations in Chicago who didn't make it to PIR on time. It may not be so bad in Nov and Dec but the weather up there is so crazy you just never know.
I have a question. With the election coming up, will the SR's have access to voting at RTC (like they would at any base) or would it be better to get an absentee ballot locally and mail it? This was something I discussed with my son before he left and I want to make sure he gets to vote. Thanks in advance for any info.
Good Morning Everyone! I will be back on later tonight. Yesterday I was running my mom around all day to doctor's visits. Today we are doing some Christmas (yes, I did say Christmas, lol) shopping all day. My mother always has her shopping finished by the end of Oct. She puts me to shame every year. I am very happy that, at least right now, she is healthy enough to enjoy these things. She does have some major health problems, so we are fortunate to be able to do these things. Have a great day and "see you later".
