For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

WELCOME TO PIR 11/20/2012

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the timeto read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by Michelle on October 15, 2012 at 9:55pm: Jennifer, thanks for the info. I just looked it up too and if we leave the 28th it would take us 21 hours. Unfortunately we don't have a car so we can't really drive over there :( My biggest concern would be traveling that many hours with my one year old. I was thinking of maybe dividing the group up since it'll be 4 of us, maybe I could fly with my daughter and my mom and have my cousin and mother in law take the train? I don't know I think I'd feel guilty having them take such a long trip...any advice?

I've taken Amtrak before from Central Michigan to Chicago, it was actually really nice. That was the first time I ever went to Chicago. It's just a slow way of getting there! I would compare the time and cost to driving though. Driving may be more or less economical.

Comment by Michelle on October 15, 2012 at 9:33pm: Still no letter for me :( But I'm hopeful that tomorrow will be the day fingers crossed! :) ... so I'm already planning my trip for PIR I just booked my room at the Navy Lodge so exciting!! Now for the hard part, actually getting there. I live in NYC so it would be a quick one hr plane ride to Chicago BUT just one problem...my mother in law can't fly :( so now I'm looking for other ways to get there, does anyone know if there's a train I can take? and if so how decent are they? I'll be traveling with my one year old too so I have to plan around her too.
