For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

WELCOME TO PIR 11/20/2012

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the timeto read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by diannep on October 15, 2012 at 9:23pm: wrwmom: They may not know when they leave for A School until the week of PIR--or shortly before that. Those flying out to A School usually leave the day after PIR (bussed there early in the morning to wait for flights---you can go wait with them). Every now and then, some are on "Hold" at RTC for a few days before heading to A School.

Those moving over to GL A School will do this right after PIR.

Comment by diannep on October 15, 2012 at 9:18pm: bluesarasota: Most of the bases go on "stand down" during the Christmas holidays which usually means that the sailor students get to go home (some may choose to stay). But your sailor will find this out when going through INDOC upon arrival at A School.

Most have a 24 hour change policy and I know some have day of. They are very used to the PIR's! Then you can feel somewhat started on travel plans as you look for airfare and car rentals.

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on October 15, 2012 at 8:57pm: TY trevorsmom...that's something I should include as far as Navy Lodge. Call rather than do online. Good to know about the different booking as far as active duty. Also, sometimes the online shows full and it is not.

But then I read on NavyDads.com that another person followed up with a phone call to the Navy Lodge because the reservation has to be in the recruits name. That was true. We changed ours over the phone. We had also reserved a room that was for active military by accident so the room was changed too. I think we are set now.
