Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

WELCOME TO PIR 11/20/2012

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the timeto read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I got one for my Sailor that has a little kid on the front that looks like he/she is flying and is wearing aviator glasses. In the inside it says "For you, being a hero is all in a days work" I don't have an address for her on the ship yet so i am waiting to send it when they are deployed and not on the workup.

I was out getting cards to send him- started at Halloween, then realized I could also do thanksgiving- but they had too many "from miles away" ones - had to leave that area. Then went on to birthdays (jeesh!). And decided to go home and make them on my computer- I can be cheerier if I can avoid the rough places- hang in there everyone

Comment by cmurph50 on October 15, 2012 at 4:57pm: I'm in Boston for a work conference and waiting to go on the trolley tour. I think it goes by the naval yard and I'm afraid I'm going to lose it. I started crying after I picked up envelopes at the front desk for the letter I wrote him last night. It still doesn't take much for me to become overwhelmed. He is my first to leave home. :(
I thought is was going to get easier.

I have no idea why, since I already knew all the information on it, BUT It's so great to see his handwriting, even if it's all neat and unlike him! Just something to feel connected to him still! No comments, he sent it to his dad, so I didn't get a little "I love you" or anything! BOOO. Oh well =) I'll live. =)
