Hang in there MJS. My son also had a very bad cold, has terrible shin splints, and has another medical issue (or maybe not) that they are checking into. He had to go off site for an ultrasound and has to get a CT scan. UGH. Worried, yes, but he is keeping the faith. Just wants to get done so says he will do as much as he possibly can to get through it. Yes, i would say go regardless. I've read a lot about how extra people are getting in to the PIR with no problem. If my son makes it, we have one less person on our list because they just can't go now, and there may be lots of others like that, so you would be able to get in. I'd have him put you on our list, but we don't know yet if his legs will get him through on time. There could be someone else who has space on their list, so maybe put the word out and see if you can get a secure spot.

hi MJS - that is great you go so many letters from him. Hopefully he is getting your letters this week and just hadn't gotten them before he sent you his letters.
I read somewhere that it takes usually 5-7 days for them to get mail. I am assuming that means from the time it is received on base, and gets sorted and delivered out. So, if you sent them last week, they are probably there for sure by now.
Enjoy all of his letters to you. that is a lot to get at one time. he must be a very good writer.

I'm feeling for you bc bday mommas! Mine's was last Friday..20! His letter yesterday said he got a Navy haircut as his bday gift! Not the high and tight he usually wears...he said 'total jarhead but it only cost $6'...lol! And I totally understand the mix of emotions...I am pacing at the mailbox and never put down the phone...but when the letters come I'm trying not to smear the ink with the tears dripping of my face. Then the phone call...was so afraid I would loose it...loved hearing that sweet voice but the old heart ACHing at the same time. Wow..you could never understand this unless you travelled thru it.

navymom x 2 S7/Div357/PIR11-5 your not the only one with a boot camp birthday... my son's 19th was on Saturday. I missed him like crazy and tried to keep busy.... we baked him a cake and sang Happy Birthday to him and his sister posted it on FB for him to see when he gets back to the real world.... We did celebrate with cake and presents right before he left... But still they are a piece of you and you feel lost without them at times!

I saw a question a couple of pages back about Marlinspike- There is some training they go through at boot camp. Marlinspike is a life size, model ship where Recruits practice mooring, line handling, putting out to sea and other aspects of Basic Seamanship. This website has a lot of helpful info, hopefully the link will work lol... http://www.navy-info.com/boot_camp_vocabulary.html

Well Stefani...now that you are going to be so experienced at being a boot camp mom I have a suggestion for you...wait for it...you can be the leader of your next child's PIR group...wouldn't that be fun...hmmm perhaps I should just mention to Jessica that I know a great victim...oh no no no I mean volunteer for that upcoming PIR group...lol

Hey all we are about to be blessed...the old saying goes that when God closes a door He opens a window.. As you know Iowa's guy is coming home on a medical discharge...however he spent a long time with the folks in his division. He and Iowa are going to remain a part of our group through PIR. So, okay everyone he will be joining our group next week, so get your thoughts together...rarely would anyone have this opportunity...but yippee...we get to ask questions of someone who has been there with our recruits....hmmm do you think he might regret volunteering for this job....lol??

Ladies, something to really look forward to.....once your recruits get to A School, you have full contact with them again. THAT is a blessing. Signals for laptops can be sketchy at A Schools, but determined sailors find them Many SKYPE...email....and of course, with cell phones in hand, texting and caling are back! The lack of communication during bc is an emotional hardship for both your recruit and for you, but there is an end to it....until they are deployed on a ship! But from what I hear about that (my son's ship is dry docked), communication then is still better than bootcamp. So hang in there!
