What a tough thing to have your son in boot camp for his birthday...you have every right to have a down day. Again I think perspectives are interesting because a mother earlier said she felt like people were only posting unhappy things....you are the only person your recruit can vent to...you are hearing the worst of the worst. It is more true for moms than the girl friends or wives because the recruits are still trying to shield them from that. I miss my son everyday and some days are easier than others. Right now all I can do is try to focus on the goal...making it to PIR. I think this is kind of like going through labor. Once we get to PIR all this sadness and frustration won't matter so much, we'll be so focused on seeing our recruits.

Well it has been a down day for me..today is my sons B-day..I received a letter..and I'm sorry but every time I get one it makes me feel worse..don't know if anyone else feels it..but I just have a hard time being positive..sorry.I'm wondering if the only ones writing is the ones that the sons are doing good?

Hey all it is my turn to be on the waiting side...lol..its all good cause I have friends like you to talk to...and camstutz never ever ever ever apologize for being excited about getting a letter because we are all cheering right along with you...I am so glad you got to experience that big grin, that rush of excitement, the feeling in your heart that just seems to fill your soul for awhile knowing that all is good in the world for a time...your recruit is surviving and you too can keep on keeping on...hang in there all...we can do it!!

Got letter today (Div 364). He said a lot in the letter, what he told me in his phone call yesterday. He said he is doing good. And has gotten in pretty good physical shape. He is a section leader. Said he has passed all of his Sub Specialty Physicals. Just waiting for xray results to come back and should be done. Food is pretty good. All turkey no Beef. Sundays 7 to 3 is there free time , to write letters relax etc.. Said his div has come together pretty good. He sounded so upbeat, and actually enjoying it at times. Said Thanks for the letters they help a lot, and to send pictures.. Cant believe only 29 days to go. Just might make it. lol Thanks so much to Lynne and all of you wonderful mom's and families on here...

guess what.....I got a letter.....not bragging, but I am so happy....my first letter. He sounded so upbeat I had to smile. He made section leader. Can't wait to see him. He was saying how sorry he was for not being able to write, but that he thinks about us "civilians" always.

Sailors who become quite proficient at knot tying, sewing, and use of the marlinspike can be known as marlin spikes, or marlin spike seamen. The body of knowledge that includes knotting and splicing is called marlinespike seamanship.

Marlinspike is a tool used in ropework for tasks such as unlaying rope for splicing, untying knots, or forming a makeshift handle.
