Hi all. I wanted to share a very nice message I just got on Facebook from my son's best friend who went through BC last Fall. he just received a letter from my son yesterday, as I did, and his letter had a little more info that he shared, plus he gave me some more input on his experiences at boot camp. Here it is:

Hi Kathy! How goes it? I just received a letter from (my son)! I was glad to finally hear from him. So he has already started training it looks like and has a test coming up and a uniform inspection. I wrote him back today reminding him how fast it goes by. I remember getting there and thinking there was no light in the tunnel, but before long we were back at O'Hare again.
That PT test is actually not bad, and PT usually becomes people's favorite time of the day....but this is not to be confused with IT sessions ("intensive training") which is when they force you to do pushups and other crazy exercises someone came up with to make you regret joining....those 5 guys who can't keep their mouths shut will just have to learn the hard way. Bad thing is they punish everyone for 1 person's mistake. If (my son's) division can pull together and make sure everyone is on task and police themselves they wont have any problems.
The first few weeks I remember seemed like Lord of the Flies~~not to worry though because everyone gets on the ball so to speak and it will get easier and easier. The RDCs will also give them a longer leash.
(My son) will do great though, the tasks they have you perform in bootcamp are easy, just stressful and boring.
My graduation fell a few days short of the Navy's version of Christmas Break (...oops I mean "holiday break" lol) so they let us fly home the day we graduated for 2 weeks and then go to our A-schools. I didn't want my mom to fly out for 1 morning and then fly right back home 3 hours later, so I told her not to worry about it. My dad was at Fort. Dix preparing to deploy to Iraq at the time so he couldn't go either. However, provided (my son) wont be coming back home before A-school I would say if you have the chance, attend his graduation. I am sure he would appreciate it very much to see familiar faces there, I know I would have. I just had to tell myself I would be home at the end of the day!
This next "phase" of bootcame will be lots of marching, studying, standing, waiting, marching, inspections, and some more marching. Might also begin some of the pistol training. He wont enjoy it but I doubt it will be difficult for him. He'll get 3 meals a day, a workout everyday, a shower, and a bed with a roof over his head. I'm sure that's the way he's thinking right now too! Worse places to be!!

Cheers!

This great guy has been my son's best friend since 5th grade. They have always stuck together so it isn't surprising that they both decided to take the Navy path.
I hope this helps all of us as we look to what is ahead in the next few weeks.

So many are getting wisdom teeth out. I had coffee with a friend today and was telling her about it, and how my son supposedly has 6 wisdom teeth and they are removing 2 of them, even though he isn't having any problems. She said that must be where they let all of their dental trainies in A school practice, ON ALL OUR RECRUITS. Yikes.

I read somewhere that mail takes 5-7 days to reach them. I was thinking that I got my official letter last Monday, the 20th, so the first letter I sent was on Tuesday last week. Now, I don't know if that 5-7 days means from the time I sent it or if it means from the time it is received at BC, then they have to process, sort and deliver them. Either way they probably wouldn't receive a letter until this week, which is AFTER they wrote letters to us on Sunday. So hopefully this week they are receiving letters.
