First, let me say it is not unusual the way I understand for some recruits to DOR out of the 800 divisions. These are special op divisions and it doesn't necessarily mean they go home, just that they drop back into a regular division. So if this has happened to your recruit, don't panic yet, or if your recruit wrote those letters, don't panic. Second, Tracy...I have had my reservations since September 3rd when my son said PIR was 11/5, I figure I can always cancel them. Navy...golly I am so glad you got your letter...ummm might want to chat with your neighbor to about how you are stalking that mail box and give them your phone number so you can run over and get it...lol...that wiating can cause strokes...lol What Mr. Walsh said is the standard answer they won't make promises, but I have to say that in all the trolling I have done in the many groups I have never had one person say they had people who did not get in! Now that is not a promise, it is only my observation. Remember members of 357 they were writing those letters right after doing 3 hours of extra PT because of an infraction by someone. So, their letters were a little skewed. My son put it a little differently. He said "I hate everyone in my division right now equally and everyone hates everyone else equally. We got a three hour beating (they don't hit us mom, they make us do extra physical training designed to punish us and be painful). Then he said thanks for letting me vent. He wrote more at the end of the day and said, "all is good mom, we are all speaking again, I guess it's been a good day all in all." So, try to put it in context. They are under a lot of pressure and the only people they can tell how they feel is YOU!! That is why I wrote what I wrote earlier. Be their cheerleader!!

My daughter has 13 division in her PIR group. We took 4 extra people and did not have a problem getting in. Just make sure someone who is on the list arrives with those not on the list. They will have to wait until everyone else is in but they did let everyone waiting for our group in well before it started.

For the cancellation policy check with the hotel you are staying at and tell them the reason that you are concerned. The Navy lodge told us we could cancel with no fee up to 6pm the day of check in. The hotels there know that there can be changes and are prepared for that.

we are staying at the residence inn 2 bedroom suite with full kitchen and living room mom thought he just might want to come there and relax and there would be plenty of room for him and all 5 of us plus his parents too they do have shuttle service as well and their cancelation on additional nights is 1 hour their time after check in i believe

Each hotel probably has it's own cancellation policy, but I booked at Quality Inn for the 11/5 PIR weekend and i can cancel up to 24 hours in advance of my reservation date. Also, most of the hotels offer a discount if you tell them you're coming for the PIR.

Do you recommend making hotel reservations when the pir date is 11/5? I don't want to jump the gun, but I don't want to be stuck with out a place to stay close by. Does anyone know if the hotels work well with you, in case your recruit gets ill, or for some other reason won't graduate when they think?
