Jsmom228 - I made reservations at the Comfort Inn last night. They do have a shuttle. Said it takes 7 minutes to get to base. The rate was $75 per night for 2 queen beds, non smoking. They said they still have space available.

I am thinking of making reservations at La Quinta but it doesn't look like they have a shuttle to PIR. We may have 7 adults going and although we only get the 4 tickets I was hoping that all of us could go and hope that some may be able to get in if there is extra room. Will we only get one parking pass? Would there be any way for everyone to go if we need to take 2 cars? Anyone have information on the Comfort Inn since it looks like they have shuttle?

Looks like DOR means Drop On Request. I believe that is when they request to quit.

Thanks eayle for sharing!! My son also wondered what he got himself into in the first letter I got last Tuesday. Was this a letter that was sent LAST Sunday?? Look forward to hearing more when you get home. Also, what's a DOR?? I think I need to take a class for the Navy "lingo". Also, did he say when he was calling home?
Inquiring minds...... (:

Thanks af2nvy - I guess even if we take extra people and they can't get in, they will still be able to hang out after the ceremony.

I got a letter!!!! I am at work so I had my daughter read it to me over the phone so I can't quite remember all the details. When I get home and re-read it, I will share more. He did confirm that they can only write on Sundays, but he did not say how many letters. The teamwork exercises must be taking hold because he said his rack mate is helping him with his folding. Because his rack mate is asian, he has nicknamed him his "origami wizard." (They seem to be friends so please, no one take offense.) The food is good and they get a lot of it. His division has already had some DOR's and several who go to medical each day. He has already learned the chain or command for the Navy, the Marines, and the Army as well as all the names of the Navy's ships. The first week he wondered what the "f" he had gotten himself into, but now everything is good. Maybe that is why they are not allowed to write for 3 weeks. I will add more when I can read the letter again.

Hi all - I see our divisions listed on the "Upcoming Graduations" page of the Navy's official site - there will be 13 divisions graduating that day! I wonder what the chances are of getting additional family members into the ceremony (aside from the 4 with official invites). Anybody know the protocol on that?

Wow you all are awesome! It takes my breath away to read the emails I get from you! Many begin with "Guess what" followed by what you have done to help your recruit...the love and compassion you are showing your recruits is really shining through. Today a mom wrote and said that a group of friends get together every Sunday to watch football and now that group of friends passes around a card and writes words of encouragement to her son. That simple gesture will mean so much. Bravo Zulu mom Bravo Zulu!! Keep up the good work. I think we've made it through the hard times and better times are ahead the days will pass faster now. Share what you are doing to lift up your recruits. Everybody needs a new idea now and then!!
