For the next two pages there is some important information for you about Grad and Go and what the recruits may be doing in boot camp this week. Please take the time to read it..

Their Week One (Not two weeks from the time they got there...but from the time they start counting....that is why the questionaires ask what week and day are you?) - Week one finds you tired, irritable and wondering what the heck you got yourself into. You will get used to waking up at 0600, I promise. This week you will begin physical conditioning and participate in a confidence course. The focus for this week of training is team-building. You will learn to rely on your shipmates, and the confidence course is a big start.

Their Week Two - In a hands-on environment, this week you will learn first aid techniques, signalling with flags, the proper procedure to board and disembark a ship, and basic seamanship. You will do this training on a real ship situated in a large hangar. Your first PT (physical training) test is administered during week three, the areas tested are 1.5 mile run, push-ups and sit-ups. This is often called the PT0, because it is the starting point from which you will improve.

Sometime during the past eight days the divisions have started week 1 for my son's division it was 9/18. That is why I have posted the two weeks. This will give you some questions you can write about. The questionaires that are in the discussion area include many things associated with this.

MD MOM...Typically if they are grad ngo they have to go immediately after PIR and check in at GL. Then they are usually given Liberty. Liberty typically is given for the weekend but they have to be back each evening at 8 or 9 PM depending on what they are told. Here is the kicker...I don't know if that is different for pre-buds...so I am going to ask around and see what I can find out! Actually I would suggest that those of you who have young recruits or old ones...lol...going into pre-buds join the pre-bud group....lol. they can begin to educate you now about that program.

Hi 2ndmom, he didn't say in his letter how many he could write each week, I sure hope more often...fingers crossed. I'm hearing from postings his division is grab and go....don't know for sure, he didn't tell me. We are planning to stay through late Sunday, just in case we can have some time with him.

Comment by Lynne on September 25, 2010 at 10:28pm
initial answer is it varies but usually by 8 or 9 each night...which trust me is a gift because when you are grad and go and get to first school you don't get the privelege of going off base at all the first weekend at the new place...lol
