This is the final test for your recruits.  When they pass this, they are sailors and trade in their recruit cap for their sailor cap in a capping ceremony afterwards. The ship they do this on was designed by Disney, so it is very realistic. During…Continue

My son will be leaving for Japan soon. He finished A school March 16th and has been on hold there since then, well, after a very short 5 days home. I am happy and excited for him, but at the same time, I am not ready for him to be halfway around the world. Feeling a little sad and helpless....Sure do hope he gets the rest of his leave before they send him over the big pond. I can't believe it's only been 2 months since he graduated from BC.

Vinsmom = Sorry to hear about your tendon.  My fiance completely ruptured his about 2 years ago and having surgery within the first week is important.  You are in for a lot of pain and several weeks of hobbling around.  I feel for you!!  I hope you have a speedy recovery and someone to help take care of you.  He did very well, of course he is a quick healer.  He was told he wouldn't be able to play tennis again for at least a year, but he was back playing 6 months later.  Just think of all the fun you will have, getting to drive those shopping scooters around all the stores!

Hi everyone! I know its been awhile. My Son finally classed up and is in his 3rd week of A school. Last weekend was a duty free one for him so I drove to Great Lakes on Friday and pick him and his girlfriend(she is Navy as well) for the weekend. We had a great visit while he was here but hated taking him back on Sunday.

Monday morning as I was getting ready for work, I tripped over a laundry basket full of clean clothes and ruptured the achilles tendon in my right foot. my Doctor is trying to schedule surgery for me ASAP.

My Son says he needs to be home to help take care of me. Aww I told him NO you are right where you need to be.

Well my husband is officially in Norfolk, and I'm still in PA :( It's been such a stressful time for us, because unfortunately I can't move with him until after either our house is sold or rented out. :( Before we were forced to be away from each other because of the Navy and it's so hard now because it's not the Navy making us be apart. Just wanted to vent a little. :) I hope everyone is doing fan-tabulous!

My son has been studying every day at nuclear A school. Last week we did not hear from him at all. I suppose the course load must be increasing now that class is in its fifth week. We will be visiting Goose Creek next month. It will be more than six months without seeing him.

Back again!!!  Not much new with my sailor.  In his third week of school and it is going good.  He spends his free time studying and makes sure on Saturdays that he is away from the books.

He hasn't been enjoying the weather right now.  Lots of bad storms in Pensacola.  Illinois gets storms but he said nothing like what Pensacola gets.  He isn't too keen on the humidity either.  He misses the spring in Illinois.

Told me that they march to class every morning and one morning they were singing cadence as they were marching past the quarter deck and they got in trouble.  He said they lost the privilege to sing cadence and need to earn that privilege back.  He said it was kinda ridiculous and wasn't sure if it was that they didn't like what they were singing or if they were too loud.

I hear you on the hard to talk to part.  It is distressing but I think that it must be part of the growing independent stage.  I have to keep reminding myself that we wanted our children to grow into well adjusted adults who can take care of themselves.  I just never considered how much I would miss their depending on me for almost everthing.  At least we can still talk to our Navy Mom friends!

its still nice to come back here and see how everyone is doing...kinda like "home".  Things are ok with my son...not hearing his orders or a definite grad date from A school so life is a little up in the air.  He is very difficult to talk to lately and it's a little heartbreaking.
