Just got my call from my son  -  YAY !!(about 35 minutes long) – really happy to hear from him, but really sad to hear how sick he is, had SIQ all day yesterday (had to stay in bunk all day) but finally got some antibiotics, hope they work soon. (said he even got yelled at for being sick – that’s all part of it, I guess). That’s why he didn’t call with the rest of his division yesterday.  He sounded really down, I know part of it was that he was so sick, but he’s doing the whole second-guessing himself, why did he choose this instead of college, will it always be this bad, or will it get better after BC and in training, will he be glad he made this choice.  I think it’s a combo of being bored (he said they have not gotten into any of the “exciting” training yet), still in the RDC “break them down” phase, feeling like crap, and missing home way more than he thought he would.  He said he’s been thinking of his dad a lot today (who passed away 3 years ago), and that really made me sad.  I’m going to try to write a cheery letter right now, get it in the mail.  So glad to hear from him, but hoping I hear in the next letter that he is well and in better spirits.  As a mom, you just want so bad to do something to make it better, and you can’t , it’s all up to them and everything you taught them at this point.   He’ll be fine, I kept telling him, it’s just 36 more days.  And then I hung up and told myself the same thing!!!

mamwalrus:  They are judged individually, but they are put into some sort of "teams" so a group of them could fail.  Remember, most of them pass...it is a very small number who may not pass the first time, but they are given another chance and pretty much all do then. 

Since we are not allowed to ask questions about the specifics of BattleStations (recruits are told it is confidential and I believe sign an agreement)...then I can't tell you about the specifics because I don't know.  But I know that usually someone in a division will not know if another division passed or not.  They go the same night as their brother division, but beyond that...can't tell you how it specifically goes.  It's a secret that only your new sailors know about!

OK question that maybe one of our "veteran" moms can answer,,,

I have heard a few different versions but when it comes to BS, does the Division as a whole pass or is it each "recruit" has to pass?  Also, does each division go separately through BS or is there a combonation of Divisions?

YAY for 073!!  My SR is female --- wonder if they're on the same schedule as the guys in that division for phone calls?  In a letter last week, my SR said her first academic test was scheduled for January 6th and she was nervous ... extra prayers going up for her division!!  Don't want any negative results to affect that possible phone call!

I just got a phone call from my SR! Ship 09 Div 074. We talked for about 15 minutes. He needed me to fax something so he got to call... but he said a lot if others SR's were making calls too! My heart stopped when I saw that 847! :)
