This is the final test for your recruits.  When they pass this, they are sailors and trade in their recruit cap for their sailor cap in a capping ceremony afterwards. The ship they do this on was designed by Disney, so it is very realistic. During…Continue

I wanted to stop by and say Hi!!! I haven't been on as much because of
computer problems but I am still connected through my cell. My computer
should be fixed within 2 days. I have several orders for ribbons from
your group so if anyone else would like to order just let me know. You
can click on my name and go to my page and send me a friend request and I
will get the info to you quickly. You can also see pics of the ribbons
on my page as well if you scroll down near the bottom of the page. The
ribbon are to wear to PIR< suitable for men and women. they are a
great way to show your pride and support for your sailor. They are a
great way to recognize other N4M members and they make a great keepsake.
They are only $5.00 each and no matter how many you order shipping is
only $5.00 for Priority shipping. I make the ribbons as my way of paying
it forward and do not profit in making them. This site has been a
lifeline for me since my daughter joined the Navy. I appreciate all of
you and what you are going through. Thanks so much for being so kind.

real quick,, i went to order a NEX GC from the site you posted, but remembered I need a phone card,, Can he purchse a phone card with teh NEX GC or can I purchase the phone card through that site as well?

diannep-do they get their debit cards there at BC from the new Navy Fed acct that was just set up?

I did hear that everything was mailed to the address they listed, which would be my home.  I did get his checking and saving acct info showing he had set it up.

I was worried so I put money in his account from home for the Photo pakage and any NEX stuff he may need just in case he didnt get new debit card.

Gotcha, Arwen....forgot about the holidays messing up the numbering of the training days.  And for the info about training continuing after PIR for some....but you DID say that they HAVE to do BattleStations before PIR, right? Just want to make sure to pass on the right info.  Thanks!

Arwen:  Question:  Do the sailors stationed get help preparing their income tax return from anyone on base?  I know when mine was in A School during this time last year, he said that they could get help for free doing this on his base...but he didn't need to file since he didn't work in 2009.  Just wondering...
Comment by diannep on January 4, 2011 at 4:28pm
Arwen is such a wealth of info....I read each and every post from her on any of the PIR sites to try and learn from her.  Glad you are on the PIR sites, Arwen!

Try www.mynavyexchange.com to purchase a NEX gift card.

mamawalrus: If he got a debit card with his NavyFed acct, he should be able to use it up there. But if he has his other debit card, he obviously could use that too.

And, yes, they can buy more phone cards at the NEX there...my son's card "died' in the middle of talking to me from the NEX...he quickly bought another one and called back.  And a NEX card is a gift card to be used for anything purchased at the Navy Exchange (NEX).  They have the phone cards there.

great question BB... can the guys get thier own if they run out of minutes there at the NEX during BC? Do they use thier own debit cards or how does that work?

I got his pay info yesterday that he set up at Navy Fed but he does not have access to it right?  He took his debit card for his account here at home.

anyone know how to order a NEX card? Is there a web site?
Comment by TxNavyMom on January 4, 2011 at 2:39pm

Thanks, JessicaB.   I'm writing to him again tonight and I'll ask for more information.  Looks like either way, it will be a quick, short trip for me.  Just can't justify spending the money on hotels for more than 2 nights.

Blessings to all the moms out there and your recuits!!!
