This is the final test for your recruits.  When they pass this, they are sailors and trade in their recruit cap for their sailor cap in a capping ceremony afterwards. The ship they do this on was designed by Disney, so it is very realistic. During…Continue

had 3 letters waiting today....He said on one he didnt even know it was Christmas until after breakfast! He said he had an awesome breakfast that day,, a steak stuffing, salad and  an AMAZING ham!  That is exactly how he wrote it too! lol lol lol lol He was able to attend church Friday, Sat and Sunday.

Another letter said he really missed me and the yelling has gone done some since they are actually learning everything.  He said it is not hard there but not easy, ?    He didnt get his hair shaved until the second day there. He said it is really pretty there and always snow on the ground and he is actually never cold, he said more like over heating with the way they wrap up.

He wakes up at 4:30 to 5:00 and asleep between 9 and 10.. average 6 hours of sleep. The other letters were to his brothers and sisters.

He did mention to them that he finally got letters so he is happy about that!

Phone calls are so different for every division. I got the I'm here call at 10pm the 1st night and received another phone call the following Sunday, less than 7 days since he's been there for like 5 minutes. From what I've heard all of Division 071 was able to make phone calls on that day. I also received another phone call the following Tuesday asking for our bank info LOL, with all the commotion we forgot a blank check. He was unable to talk about really anything but the bank account, but I was still ecstatic to hear his voice. So again, it's really different for each division and individual. I've learned not to expect a phone call though, because than I don't get upset when it doesn't come (like Christmas) but still keep my phone by my side at all times, just in case!

Last week I called navy gateway and the operator told me I could stay there if I had a military ID card, and that there would be shuttles and taxis available for me to take. Then I called again today to confirm, and another operator told me there were NO taxis or shuttles on base and that I would have to walk? Does anyone know anything about the Navy Gateway?

Got my call on christmas day...mine shipped out 12/6..don't know why I got it but was happy I did and wished everybody got one...maybe there is a nice rdc in our division

Arwen, thanks for the clarification on phone calls.  I was told to expect 2 calls.  Call #1 (I'm here), Call #2 (I'm a sailor)...anything else is a bonus.  I got my I'm here call on day 4 because my SR had to take her urinalysis while eveytbody else was calling...just the way it worked out, but she explained in letter.  I was surprised at the number of N4M people who are saying they got calls.....I think thats what gets everybody (including myself) hoping that more calls are coming that what we should expect.  Other than the background check allowances, why are some getting calls?

Great idea on the guest book Proudusamom.....that is much easier then having envelopes and collecting money to mail! hhahahahaha  I think doing it by Division is much easier too!  Maybe get those color tabs and write the Division on them so we can just turn to that page when we arrive to sign in at M & G?  Also if you can do the picture in case Heather does not arrive in time would also be great!

So question.... should we all wear our scarfs to M & G at least for the picture part?  I would like one group of all N4M and also each division to have their group shot of just them ( ex. 804, 063, 067 ect....)  That way we all get 2 pic's. 1 group and 1 of our division

Hmmm....interesting that they may do PIR before training is finished.  Someone had posted once that a friend's sailor did that...was allowed to go to PIR before finishing his run, doing BStations....but that was the only time I heard about that and it was an individual issue. Maybe Arwen has more info on this?

Thanks, Dianne --- yes, she definitely said that P-Days took about 5 days --- AFTER her division filled up, which took a week!  I was wondering about PIR because I had heard on the DEPper board before she had gone in that some recruits actually do the PIR ceremony BEFORE they are done with training.  So after PIR, they have to go finish their training before leaving for A-School.  Not sure how often that happens or if it could affect her ...

Comment by diannep on January 3, 2011 at 12:05pm

tls:  They will be finished by their PIR date, don't worry.  Remember, their PIR group BattleStations schedules may be spread out almost a week apart (starting Thurs a week before PIR and possibly going through Wed night right before).  So in essence, the divisions all may be somewhere within that week difference in training.  They get it done!  Don't worry.

On the pay, my son was there this time last year (went in the end of Nov 2009).  He told me that no pay would be put in until the first of Jan, but then it would include all of his pay since he arrived. That is what I figure accounts for the larger pay amount you mention.  I never saw his amount since he had his own account.

As far as the training day she was on as of Christmas Eve....I'm sure she has progressed past that by now...probably into week 2 even. Sounds like she was at the end of processing days on Christmas Eve.  Holidays cause delays in the training too.

Comment by diannep on January 3, 2011 at 11:58am
mdubtxmom:  Tagging on to what Lala said, sometimes the processing can take close to 2 weeks, especially during holiday periods such as we just went through.  Like Lala said, it varies by division.  Just find out when his Day 1-1 is (Week 1, Day 1) and that will be his first day of actual bootcamp training.
