This is the final test for your recruits.  When they pass this, they are sailors and trade in their recruit cap for their sailor cap in a capping ceremony afterwards. The ship they do this on was designed by Disney, so it is very realistic. During…Continue

Lexsmom...  How far are you from GL?  Your weather is a little warmer that ours.  You are warmer than us today.  I haven't left the house at all today.  Watched movies under the heating blanket most of late afternoon and evening.  It is VERY windy outside and you can feel the chill in the house.  I wish winter was over already.  And I want to move to Alaska????

mamawalrus and himmiemom....I am in much better spirits today. My husband and I and daughter had about a 2 hour drive to see his family today. We talked about the letter and yes he is homesick...but one thing I was overlooking really, was the comment I want to come home but I can't do that because I need to be here to set myself up for my life. Hubby who is former Army...said that statment tells him that his head is in the right place and even though he is miserable...he is commited to finish BC. Honestly...I totally glossed over that with my emotion. Up to this point...he has been no help to me at all....actually only given me greif about how emotional I was....today he talked to me and held my hand in the car while we were talking. Josh will be a stronger, better man after all this. I know that in my heart. Thanks everyone for the understanding and support. It helps to actually have "moms" because men tend to look at us as just silly emotional basket cases....but then again like I told him...you just watched and supported me....I gave birth to them....there is a difference.... <3

Thanks for the great advice himmie, I am in Illinois as well, yesterday was close to 60 degrees and today we were around 31. Layering is key to comfort. better too many clothes than not enough.

With wind chill right now in Northern Illinois it is 3 below.  Funny thing is yesterday it was 51 degrees.  I looked out my window yesterday afternoon and all the snow is melted.  We have green grass right now which is very unusual this time of year.  So When PIR gets here finally make sure to layer your clothing.  Our weather this fall and winter has so far been very unusual.

Happy New Years everyone!  No "new" news, but my SR must have been feverishly writing letters.  In addition to the second one I got the other day, I learned that she also wrote both Grandparents, our neighbors (and very good friends), my sister's hair salon (who sent her a batch of letters), two friends and her Uncle!  She's keeping everyone informed. Everyone agrees that she sounds upbeat and pretty much like her normal self.  Doesn't hate it, doesn't love it, just making the best of each day and new challenge.  I'm so proud.  :-)  Hopefully, we'll all get some more letters this week.  Like himmiemom, pointed out....6 "mail" days! Yahoo!!

The Great Lakes Navy Lodge is located in Navy Family Housing, immediately west of NTC. It's only about 1,000 feet from barracks, but it's on the wrong side of base. You have to go all the way around (1.5 miles by road) to get to the front gates. But you can see barracks from the upper story Navy Lodge rooms.

fondzysgrl - There are a few of us from divison 073 ... check out the discussion groups above.   Just click in the search bar and search for 073 and you'll find us.  It's cool how there are different "levels" of boards --- Boot Camp Moms are EVERYONE .... PIR 2/11/11 is those of us counting down ... and the Division discussions keep us abreast of what OUR kids are going through (each division is different as far as permissions, etc) ....
