This is the final test for your recruits.  When they pass this, they are sailors and trade in their recruit cap for their sailor cap in a capping ceremony afterwards. The ship they do this on was designed by Disney, so it is very realistic. During…Continue

Momo--- My son is from 09/069 and we have received no letters or calls either; Christmas was hard, esp. with no contact.  I'm now hearing it's about 3 wks. when they get to call or write, so we here are still looking at only 2 1/2 wks--- even tho it seems like it's been a month!  Time creeps by when you're waiting to hear from your kid... I hope you hear your son's voice real soon!   =)

I just wish that I would get another letter because I'm starting to get bummed because I don't know how he's doing. The one letter I did get didn't say a whole lot. I think it's a lot harder than what he thought it was going to be. He can handle it. He said he'd just take it day by day. When he did write, he had only been there a week, so I'm hoping things have gotten better.  I see the other posts about others getting all these letters and calls. Anyone else here from ship 09 div 068? Have you at least got a phone call? I'm tired of crying all the time. My husband feels bad because there isn't anything he can do. I just want these next 44 days to fly. I hate the feeling of not knowing. I'm just glad I have other women to kinda cry to. Thanks everyone!!

Hey PIR 2-11-11,

I am making ribbons for anyone who wants them. Some of you have requested information from me and I have tried to email or message each of you personally. You can send supplies or some of the ladies are sending money orders. The ribbons will be a Navy ribbon with a gold/yellow smaller ribbon down the middle and then it will have the PIR date and first name of your sailor. I am making them for $3/each. Then I am asking for extra to ship them back in a flat rate box which is $4.95. Make sure you include your address and contact information so I can send them back to you.

My personal email address if you need to reach me after work hours is avvegte@gmail.com My mailing address is listed below. I will put this all in a discussion just incase some of you miss it!

I can’t wait to make these and it will keep me busy for a couple weeks too!!!

Thanks again and can’t wait to meet you!

My Address:

Something to consider if your recruit will be GnG and shipping out to another city: PIR is 3 hours of sitting alone in a big building, watching and listening to a pretty show, but there is no contact with your sailor. They can't even make eye contact. Then you get 15 minutes with your sailor before s/he has to leave.

Instead, order the PIR DVD, and fly to the city where your sailor will be going to school. Meet them there and spend the weekend with your loved one. It will be far more meaninful, and more worth the long trip there.

Your new sailor may not be able to leave base that weekend, but you can spend two full days with them on base. Most bases have theaters, lounges, and resturants on base, there is plenty to do.

THIS ALSO WAS ON THE FACEBOOK PAGE. THOUGHT IT WOULD BE HELPFUL

U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command
Grad & Go refers to those recruits checking into their A School in Great Lakes the same day as graduation. They grad, and then they go. If a
recruit is flying out on Saturday, he/she is simply called a Saturday
departure. No recruits fly ou...t
of state on the same day as graduation. They may fly out on Saturday,
but never on Friday. RTC did away with out-of-state Grad & Go's
quite a while ago.

Recruits checking into A School at Great Lakes will get about an hour right after graduation to spend with their
families. Then they will go across the street to check into their
school. That process can take up to five hours, however, the upside is
that they may receive overnight liberty for the remainder of the
weekend. They will not find that out for certain until they get to
their school.

If your recruit will fly out on Saturday, you will at least have the entire day and part of the evening to spend with him
on his liberty.

Here is a quote off of the Naval Recruit Training Command on Facebook, regarding phone calls on Christmas....thought some of you would find this helpful...and ease your mind:

U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command

Unfortunately, there just wasn't enough time in the day nor enough phones in the phone center to be able to allow 5,000+ recruits make phone calls. We strongly recommend everyone continue writing their recruits to help keep them motivated. Know that the recruits are kept busy every day with training and studying. Also know that if a recruit is in any jeopardy of not graduating on time due to illness, injury or test failure, they will be given the opportunity to phone home with that information.

Stay positive and keep good thoughts in mind. Graduation will be here quicker than you realize.

I found if you go to www.mwrgl.com you can order a division shirt for your SRs. This is also something you can buy at the PIR and I understand your SR can order one as well. thinking my daughter would want a hoodie for sure!
