This is the final test for your recruits.  When they pass this, they are sailors and trade in their recruit cap for their sailor cap in a capping ceremony afterwards. The ship they do this on was designed by Disney, so it is very realistic. During…Continue

Hey friends!  I just made our travel arrangements.  Went back and forth about whether to drive, fly or train...  we are in Northern Virginia near DC, so the drive seemed too long.  So, we decided to fly Southwest into Midway instead of O'Hare in hopes of less delays and cancellations. Arriving at 2 on Thursday, flying out at 8:30 Sunday.

We're staying at Spring Suites -- only 1.5 miles from all of you at the Residence Inn.  Our 10 year old daughter REALLY loves to swim, so I decided to go this way.  The reviews are really good and it is $89 a night for Navy rate.  Not bad!

Mamawalrus,  If it's not too late, can you add another room.  There will be three of us.  Thank you,

If no one has added the meet and greet event you can go ahead and do it if you want. It is simple. Just go to the events tab and go to the calendar and click on the day for your meet and greet and add the event. It will lead you through it. Then a few weeks from now when you are getting closer to PIR you can send an event invitation to all the members in your group and they can RSVP. Then about a week before PIR you can call the Ramada and let them know about how many will be attending from Navy for Moms site. There will be others there as well.

Proudnavywife...when I was younger I used to ride amtrak to WA state to visit relatives...it was about 30 hours...we looked forward to that trip...it was a good time..and I think AMtrak has improved since then....lol!!

If you are making plane reservations try Orbitz...remember they have a new insurance you can buy for about 45.00 that allows you to change your tickets for basically any reason...lol....it may be worth it..

Hi all, sorry I have been MIA for a few days...I had pneumonia and the hospital and I had a little rendevouz...however I am doing better`and will try and help out again some.  Our PIR had 13 divisions that graduated 1026 sailors and everyone got in.  One of our recruits had 7 extra guests with no problems whatsoever so I wouldn't worry too much...we just scrunched together...and actually there was some left over room in the balcony.

Dianne...I did hear that as well about the extra guests...you may want to have your recruit ask if that is the new policy...or if that is the policy of that RDC.  One of the things that has become clear to me, before I got sick (lol) is there are a lot of new RDCs that have many new rules or interpretations of the rules so it may be that we want to check...lol!!

I have a question maybe someone can answer, maybe I just need to call the hotel and see how it will work but I was wondering if anyone know how the free shuttle thing works? my hotel offers it and said we can bring our sailor back on it but supposibly my son will have to go check in before leaving on liberty and It could take up to 5 hours. do you call the hotel to send the shuttle or what?? sorry if this is a stupid question, I just have never used a shuttle before. friends of ours hows son PIR'd 09 told my husband to get a taxie and let them drop you off other wise you have to take your vehicle through security and there are long lines and they park your car like a mile away of you use a shuttle or taxie they drop you off at the gate and not as much trouble.

mapakids:  Can you post all of your division numbers at the top of this page?  It is helpful to have that up there.  Yours are 63-74, 804, 912.  Makes it easier when trying to determine BattleStations dates down the road.  Thanks!,

For those worried about extras getting in for PIR, go on 1/7 group...and leave a post for Lydia.  She was a member of the large Sept PIR group I mentioned below...same number of divisions as you all have (14).  I believe I remember her posting that all got in...they were VERY FULL...but all were there...and their PIR was during nice weather back in Sept.were weather difficulties wouldn't have prevented families from getting there.
