Awwww Purplemom!!  That's so sweet!!  He was really thinking ahead!  Very, very thoughtful . . .

I remember telling our recruiter at the outset (this was in our first meeting which I approached with a bit of confrontation) that I didn't want to subject my son to some regimen of brainwashing or "toughening" that would undo all the good raising I'd done for 18 years.  (I realize that sounds like I'd just come down from the holler and offered up my best cow or something, but I was feeling a bit defensive, like I said.)  Anyway, the very patient recruiter smiled at me and said, "Mom, our job is to take the good work that you've done with this young man and make you even more proud of him.  I don't think we CAN undo what you've done."

I'm so excited for ALL our sons, husbands, and boyfriends and can't wait to see them march at PIR.  :D

I received a package of paperwork today from the recruiter. It contained some paperwork my son did while doing his processing before flying to Chicago that he didn't want to bring with him to Chicago. Inside the package was also a birthday card for me from my son. It was a beautiful card and he wrote a wonderful letter inside telling me how much he loved me thanking me for all the support I have given him over the years. My birthday is Tuesday and his birthday is just a few days later. We usually celebrate together every year. In his card he apologized for having to be in Boot Camp and not being able to call me on my birthday and not being able to have our celebration this year. The card made me cry but was the highlight to my day!!

Arwen...i looked on the metra maps and it doesn't seem like they connect at the station. do you know which ones to take from O'hare airport??

Hooray Wife64!!  I'm so happy for you . . . that next letter will surely be close behind.  :D

Metra is easy. Each route is color-coded. He needs to take the CTA Blue Line to Chicago Union Station, then transfer to the Metra UP-N (dark green on maps) to Great Lakes.

Yay! I finally got my form letter. Those 4 little lines have made my week right now!! He asked me to send lots of letters and pictures. I bet he'll be in for a great surprise when the mail comes since I have been writing him tons and putting a picture or two in each letter.
