At similar costs and similar time, I prefer the train over a bus. On a train you can get up, walk around, they have movies in the observation car, and there is a restaurant on the train, so you don't have to get off for each meal.

Amtrak also has AAA and military discounts that will make their prices more compeititive. We have AAA ($65/year), and it took 20% off our fares.

Congrats Exxie - a "real" letter written on the 25th.  We can all hope for one.  So glad you mentioned again about the band-aids.  I will send a couple in the next letter out.  Thanks.

MariaM you are right about that.  Just the way she wrote I could tell she sounded excited.

I got a real letter from my daughter today!  She sounds really good.  She wrote the letter on Christmas during bed rest.  She had been sick and the doctor said she needed to sleep.  She said they get up at 4am But, she said she has made a ton of new friends and she is having a good time.  What a relief to finally hear from her and know she is doing well.

I am waiting to book transpertaion till we find out for sure on when she leaves out. Hotel works with you on that but not as easy with bus, train or flight.

We live in NC. I just checked the price again and greyhound would be $344.00 rountrip and Amtrak 472.00 and the amount of time was close to the same.
Comment by joshuasmom on December 29, 2010 at 7:43pm
Navymom, also Amtrak is quicker for us than Greyhound.
