Wooh! Got to talk to my SR this morning. He's got a flu and had an ear infection (he has to go swimming later on today, poor thing) but other than that he sounds good :) He cant wait to get out of there lol He said food is actually pretty good there, and got 2 wisdom teeth pulled (ouchie). All and all he sounds good. So proud of him.

Good morning everyone, I got a message a couple days ago from a mom or wife who wanted some information on the ribbons I make to wear to PIR. She was in one of the March PIR groups. I think she changed her screen name so it wouldn't have her SR's name in it and now I can't figure out who she is. If this was you, I found the other info you were looking for. We are already friends so all you have to do is send me a message so I know which one of my friends you are lol. I will send that info to you. If anyone else is my friend and has ordered ribbons for PIR from me please please please let me know if you change your screen name :) Thanks

Having been in the Army, I think the mail thing is kinda strange that a SR/Recruit has to learn how to be the mailperson in order for the SR's to start getting mail, but then it might be motivation, who knows.  I have written 3 letters since Friday [21 Jan] (when we got the form letter), example like last night when I wrote I put the date on the page Jan 26/27 so he will know when I wrote it and when it got mailed. From listening to others I am guessing my son will be a GradNGo, so that is kinda sad, but then I look forward to maybe being able to drive the car out to him once he has POV options in Nuke after I hear 8 weeks.

Katiez, my son arrived at GL January 11th. I actually got a surprise 3 minute call the 15th. As many others have told me, keep your phone with you at all times! I haven't heard anything since then, other than the form letter. What ship and division is your boyfriend?

amsred2-my son is also Ship-12 Div 102, and he just left here on 1/18, so I was expecting a PIR of 3/18, but got the letter 2 days ago saying it would be 3/11. I've wondered too why some of them are in push divisions-sounds like it might just be random though. While I'm happy he'll be finished sooner(hopefully) it seems like it's even harder on them to go at a faster rate!

Ship 12 Div -95 I got a 2 minute phone call from my son this week.  First I had heard from him (his letter and box went to the GF)

Their mail person is still in training so Our SR have not received or sent any mail as of yesterday.  By this Sunday they should (hopefully) get mail and be able to send mail.

KatieZ:  PIR is WONDERFUL...it is such a phenomenal event...to see the sailors marching in their divisions in their dress blues.  You can pull up videos on www.youtube.com of the Navy PIR ceremonies and watch some.  If your sailor is GradNGo to Great Lakes, he will move over there right after PIR (3-5 hours) and then it is possible that after you pick him up, he can have overnights for the weekend.  If he is not GradNGo, you can visit with him during the day but he will have to be back at RTC at night.  If he is flying out Fri/Sat to A School, you won't have as much time...but you may be able to wait with him at the airport...even the gate if you get a military pass.  You can meet him out at the airport.  Where is he going to A School?  Letters and phone calls can come at any time so be ready!

Even a push division  does not have PIR date change. It just means that they didn't fill the division up until the last minute and they won't have as many P days as other divisions. They begin training faster and many of them may only be there 7 weeks instead of the normal 8. But once the div PIR date is set it will not change for the whole division. It can however, change for an individual who could be set back at some point during training for sickness, injury, not passing a test, or getting into serious trouble.
