Hi all!  I thought this might be a good way for us to connect!  So took the advice of some other moms.  Hopefully we can get information on when we start receiving calls and letters and other info!

I was also very lucky with phone calls and lots and lots of letters. I attributed it to be because 1, she was a girl and a very good writer, she kept telling me it was going to be harder on me than it was her and therefore she wrote a lot, she wrote at night in bed (a no-no), she wrote at night when she was on watch, she even wrote in the head lol. And she was in the performing division and I think that because they have so much more that they have to do they sometimes get more privileges. But that is just a guess. And even with all the letters and calls I received at the time it sure didn't seem like it was near enough :)

Lala, I think your theory is probably correct on why some recruits have to wait longer than others to write. That would make sense....so glad that you received a letter early also.  I was one of the lucky ones--missed the "I'm here" phone call...voicemail-- but 3 days later, got a 5-min call on Thanksgiving.  He was able to call again just 10 days later, and then again the next weekend.  Shocking!  Well, he was asmoed for a week shortly after that and the new division he finally got into was not so lenient with phone calls.  I think he only called once before the I'm a Sailor calls.  Every division is different and the RDCs are different in what they allow.

amacs/mom:  Wow, I'm surpirsed that he was able to write this quickly if he just arrived there on the 12th, but that's wonderful!  Usually they don't allow the recruits to write for about 2 weeks.  Glad you didn't have to wait that long!  They also normally hold the mail from them for the first 2 weeks also.

Okay, if you want something a little different and kind of interesting to write about here is something I found very cool. This year we have the dates 1-1-11, 1-11-11, 11-1-11. and 11-11-11. Now with all those 1's in your mind take the year you were born let say '63 and add that to the age you will be this year 48 and you get 111. It works for everyone, try it. :)

I am not 100% sure but I believe when they get to start writing letters depends on how quickly they are actually placed in their division. The longer that takes the longer it is before they can write. My daughter was placed in a division very quickly. She even had PIR a week sooner than we expected based on when she left. She arrived on Tuesday night and got to write her first letter that Sunday and again on Monday because it was a holiday. I actually got a real letter a day before I got the form letter. For most recruits it is the 2nd Sunday they are there before they get to write a letter because they are still processing.

Welcome soliz, I bet this is really different for you since you are also in the Navy. You have the knowledge of what they are really going through firsthand. The Navy Lodge is a little over a mile from base but since you have military ID you might want to stay at the Navy Gateway Inn. Their rooms are even cheaper than the Navy Lodge. I think about $55 a night and I am pretty sure it is on the base across from the RTC Base.

Ashlove2317- I went and checked the mail today...and nothing :( Maybe they just didnt have time to write or maybe they will come monday. IDK But I didnt get anything either so maybe they send the letters out by divisions.
