Oh my goodness Ky'smom. So sorry to hear about the loss of your sister. I am glad the Navy was good about your daughter getting leave.

after such a beautiful PIR ceremony and being able to spend some time with my daughter, Saturday evening (3/12) after dropping my daughter back off at base, I recieved a phone call telling me that my only sister, my only sibling had passed away unexpectedly.  I was allowed back on base to tell my daughter, the base personnel was wonderful!  They allowed my daughter to have off base liberty that night to be with me.  It was quite an ordeal, but they did grant her leave to be home for the funeral.  I have nothing but good things to say about the NAVY and how they handled this situation in a time of family distress.  My sincere THANKS go out to the US NAVY for being so caring, compassionate and understanding.  I truly feel that my daughter is in a good place in the time of our family's loss and dismay.

kathryn wow, so does she keep the male roommate??? OMG that is sad and funny, you will have to let us know, and my son is in Goose Creek! What division in boot camp was your daughter in?

Twogirl, I am so happy for you.

We are on our way back to Goose Creek tomorrow. I could not go to PIR so we drove up last Saturday and got there just as she was dismissed. Gave her some of her own stuff, especially undies and took her shopping for room stuff. (Did I tell y'all they first gave her a male roomie?) .

This weekend middle daughter has a show-she is a ballerina with Charleston Ballet-so we are taking our grandkids up to see both aunties and the show.

With both daughters there, I wonder how many miles I will put on my car? And will I care? No.

Well if you fail from nuke school you get sent out to a ship undesignated or you might be able to pick a rate but most likely no. They will go to the fleet with out a job. As for not being able to do there jobs well they could choose to pick other jobs bit they would have to first pick the job and then see if they have that job at there current shop or command then might have to wait till they get realesed from thier rate job. And if you are asking about changing jobs in a school well unless they just plain fail they can't change jobs their until they get to their permennant duty station. If you are worried thatmight happen to your sailor well he would have to find out for himself Cus evey situation is different. For example for pll that have been in awhile might be asked to cross rate due to their being to many in his current rank and rate. And he will only be asked that I he is going to re enlist. Hope this helps.

my son is in A school, he said there are several guys who didn't make it through Nuke school ( REALLY HARD ) and now that are at a different A school for a different rate.

payback I have heard mixed comments about the A School Graduation, some say they don't have them, some say they do, asked your new Sailor if yours will have one.

Also yes I think they allow you to re-class if you can't do the job, but again I would ask someone who has been around longer than me.

Does anyone know if you cant do what the recruiter signed you up to do -does the Navy give you another job to do or what?  Just wondering!  I have a feeling lots of SR's get put into jobs they cant do and was just wondering what happens to those?
