deidre:  All of your family should get in because there are only 9 divisions in this PIR group.  Some may have to wait until all of the "4" guests are seated before coming into the PIR hall, but usually they don't even make them do that.  It is well worth them coming!  RTC only guarantees that the 4 on the list get in, but those of us who have been on this site over a year have not heard of extra people not getting in.

Residence Inn is a great place to stay in Waukegan...just 4.5 miles from the base, there is a PIR shuttle, 2 bdr 2 bth suites available (and studios) with full kitchens if you want to cook for your sailor, free hot breakfast, quiet area, pet friendly....

Also, all PIR families are welcome to stay at Navy Lodge for PIR. Just tell them you are there for PIR. They will need you SRs info.  Just know that it is not located on RTC...it is about a mile from the base.  No shuttle, but you could take a regular cab or drive to PIR.

Dayciavu:  Just remember...wherever he was mentally when he wrote that letter, he could be in a much better place right now.  Bootcamp is a series of ups and downs...so try to stay positive!  Hoping that the next letter (or call) is much more encouraging!

deidre4 -

you can check out the navy lodge - since it is graduation - you can stay there - your "sailor" just needs to come over after graduation and show his ID.  He can "sponsor" anyone that is staying there.  Just let them know when you make the reservations that it is for his graduation.  It is 65.00 night - 2 queen beds, and a kitchenette.  here is the link;

http://local.yahoo.com/info-42661450-great-lakes-navy-lodge-great-l...

You can also call; 1-800-628-9466

Your "sailor" can only put 4 people on his list - however after everyone that is on the list goes in - they allow most everyone else to go in - should not be a problem as there are only 9 divisions graduating that day.  You could also write your SR and have him ask his division to see if anyone does not have family coming and have them write down the other names for him.  Then just take him with you after graduation - kind of like adopt a sailor for the day!!  He will think it is a great trade!!  Hope this helps!

hi deidre4 - my son is ship 02/div 924  & grads 4/29. we booked a room  at the days inn in great lakes.  it's like 1.8 miles from the training camp.  you can stay at the navy lodge but have to be active or retired military. i am flying from cetnral NJ but my family is flying from S.A. & Dallas Texas.  i have 4 family members coming but from what i have read through this site, your guests can come in with you. you will also want to give your son a list of who is coming - i THINK they need to put them on a list (??). good luck!!
