My son is on ship 12 div 153 and graduating on April 29. Anyone else on this day and division? Where to stay we are flying in from Houston, TX, Watching weather everyday to see what we need to bring and wear. What if his Grandparents and brothers want to come, will we all be able to see him graduate. Its a total of 6 people.

They do have handicapped parking and they will even take you to the PIR hall in a wheel chair if you feel the walk is just too hard. Take advantage of it and don't put yourself through any unnecessary pain.

On the handicapped pass, that should help you.  We took the shuttle when there, but I have heard that those that drove said it is not a bad walk and I would imagine they have handicapped parking spots.

Patti:  It's not that bad of a walk.  And...there are sailors with wheelchairs posted on the base, so if it gets difficult, they will just wheel you right into the hall!  I wouldn't worry!

I was reading that there is a long walk to the PIR? I have a hard time standing/walking due to an excrutiating foot problem and now I'm really concerned that I won't be able to wobble my way down there. I have a handicapped pass, does that help at all w/the distance?

Sounds perfect, marylieu!  You will all be comfortable and stylish at the same time.

:-)  That's what my older son and I wore, by the way.  Well, we had on heavy coats/snowboots on too because it was Feb 5th!

diannep: thanks so much for all your valuable advice.  We are six coming for the graduation..3 ladies and 3 gentlemen.  Based on what I have read, and the fact that there is a lot of walking I mentioned to the ladies that we should wear nice jeans (dark colored) and flat shoes and a nice top.  As far as the gentlemen are concerned I have suggested dark jeans (either black or blue) and a collared shirt....if its not too much trouble...what are your opinions on this type of dres...is it appropriate?
Comment by diannep on April 3, 2011 at 5:21pm
Brittany.  You will see all kinds of dress there....casual (one man had on ragged jean cutoffs and a tank top when we were there Feb 201--a bit tacky!) to a girl in a mini shirt with 5 inch heels that she could barely walk in!  The most important thing is to be comfortable..."nice casual" is what I would suggest for most people.  They will be in their finest (sailors) but no need to be semi-formal!

CMOM- I hope he gets lucky and does not catch it! My husbands seems to have a mild case of it. My husband told me they are getting along much better. he was a little scared in the beginning because they didn't. My husband is a section leader. I don't really know what that means! He didn't explain and I forgot to ask while on the phone. I wonder if they know each other too :)

Hey...I was wondering if anyone knew what is appropriate to wear to the graduation? My husband's recruiter said like semi-formal. So I was thinking just like a cute dress or something. Any suggestions? I love looking at the countdown and see that we are one day closer to seeing our loved ones!!
