The extra phone card is a great idea. The card my daughter had used 36 min every time she made a call from a payphone. If she called me, her dad, her bf, or got disconnected it was another 36 min off the card every time. She ran out of min one time and called my cell collect. Not all cell company's allow collect calls. For Sprint it was $9.50 for 10 min. That was the best money I had ever spent for a phone call and at that time I probably would have accepted if it had said the charge was $100.00 When you miss them that much you will pay almost anything to talk to them. So send that extra, activated phone card just in case :-)

hey PC,

My son 03/Div 152 too, and I haven't had a call.  I think 3 of the moms with daughters in our DIV got calls, but I'm not sure any of our sons have called yet.

hang in there.  He loves you and he's probably doing fine.  It is hard not to hear from them, but I'm hoping it's all good!!!

BrendaF-my SR is also in 3/149. Message me if you need to!

Wow-30 days!!!!!  It really does seem to get easier after they leave for GL, doesn't it. It felt as if it would drag on but here we are at the half way point already. I'm glad to hear so many are getting calls. It made so much of a difference to me to actually hear B's voice. Sometimes I wish I could peek in and watch their training but then I snap back into reality and realize I probably wouldn't want to see it.  lol I think I'm going to to stalk the mailman today-I've been getting letters on Wednesdays.

Yes, Brittany.  The connection from the pay phones eats up alot of the minutes on their phone cards.  That is why we advise those who send their SRs phone cards to get ones with at least 500 minutes on them.

Yes, ladies, you can buy phone cards for your SRs and mail them with your letter.  Just make sure it is activated before you mail it to save your SR time doing that on his/her call.  They can also buy them at the NEX, but of course, you can save them that money by mailing them one!

I got my call on Monday as well. She had 20 minutes to chat, so spent 1/2 with me and half with her grandparents. I thought that was really nice of her!

She sounded like she had a huge smile on her face. She is truly enjoying bootcamp (odd huh?) and can't understand why some of the girls haven't figured out they have to work together to succeed. She kept jumping all around with topics so it was hard to keep up!

She said not many were making calls from her division since they didn't have phone cards. So, if you didn't get a call, it's a good bet their card ran out.

Still doesn't know if she's gonna graduate on time yet, so told me to hold off on the plane tickets.

PC mom - my hubby said that everytime the go to phone they go to the NEX first so they can pick up phone calls. I sent one with him and it already ran out! They charge extra for pay phones evidently

BrendaF- my SR in in DIV 149. So is it your son, or who is it that is the sailor in 149?
Comment by diannep on March 29, 2011 at 11:33pm
I totally understand and I bet he got/will get a card at the NEX.  Hoping that you hear from him soon. He still has a month before the I'm a Sailor calls will come in...plenty of time to get another phone call in.

PCMom:  He wouldn't be in Michigan?  Usually it is the 847 area code.
