Also, I don't believe that GradNGos to GL get overnight liberty anymore.  They have to return to base each night.  That is a recent change.

itsmonicaaa:  We here on this site still use the term GradNGo to mean Sat. departures too...because the RDCs still refer to those flying out as GradNGos when talking to the SRs.  RTC is working to get that term only to be used for those moving over to GL base on PIR Day, and "Saturday Departures" for those flying out.  Once the SRs stop calling home to say that they are "GradNGo and flying out on Sat," and instead refer to themselves as "Saturday Departures," we will use only those terms on this site.

So ladies....don't assume that if your SR tells you he/she is GradNGo, that means that they are moving over to GL base on PIR day. It could mean they are flying out the next day, so be sure to ask!

Ladies, i think you WANT your sons to be grad and go. Grad and go are the sailors that will be staying in great lakes for A School. They go directly from PIR to their a school and check in, which takes about 5 hours, and then they get the rest of the weekend liberty, unless they have to stand watch or something. If they aren't grad and go I believe they are saturday departure.

marylieu, I sooo in the same boat with you.  That is all I can think about since reading that he is probably a Sat departure for Nuke school.  I too was so looking forward to the whole weekend with him.  I even booked our hotel until Monday thinking we would have the whole weekend with him.  Now my husband is like, "we will still have time to see Chicago"  I am like, all I want to do is come home after my SR flies out.  I am praying God will change my mind set.  As I know this is not healthy.  I really thought I was ok, but as the days go by with no communication, this just sucks big time!  Oh well, just riding another wave of the emotional roller coaster.  We "will" get thru this.   Big Hugs, hang in there!

Oneluvdmom:  my heart is with you..I feel the exact same way....now I am really sad thinking that I do not know if my son is a grad and go.  I am so looking forward to the weekend with him, and now I am saddened to think that this may not be the case.  Still...no letter.

Pearl:  The GradNGo info only comes from your SR.  See my post below yours in the event yours is a Sat. Departure sailor.

is there anywhere for us to see if our sailors are going to be a grad and go or is that something we have to wait to get from them.  Information on liberty shows for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, but I am seeing more and more people talking about their sailors leaving on Saturday.
Comment by diannep on March 21, 2011 at 1:24pm
oneluvdmom:  Just remember...you should be able to meet him at the airport in the wee hours on Sat and spend time with him until he leaves. Get the gate pass from the airlines counter personnel (need ID and your sailor with you) so you can wait with him at the gate!  Special extra minutes with him and his buddies!
