monica, my son left 3/1 - i received his box 3/4 and his form letter 3/9. his recruiter has been wonderful - i call him all the time for information - he & this website are my ONLY source of information!
My boyfriend has some musical talent (he is a good singer and can pick up a guitar) but had no formal experience so I was surprised that he was placed in the performing division! I'm so proud of him though! I think he probably got chosen for the 900 division because of his good test scores. I've heard that members of the 900 div are also "body snatchers" at graduation, so maybe he was chosen because he is tall and strong to pick up fainting sailors! I guess I won't know until I get a letter.
Also, he is a Mass Communication Specialist and I'm beginning to make travel arrangements from CA.
You are right Josie, this site is overwhelming! I can't even imagine how overwhelming being at boot camp is!!
Jordan went in as an apprentice; his desired field is engineering but going in as an apprentice allowed him an earlier entry date and some flexibility. he did 1 year of college but was eager to move out of the small town humdrum. his brother, my oldest who is 21, is studying english/prelaw. jordan did well with & in school but has the drive to see the world. i applaud his choice. my dad was career air force (25 years active) & my brother served 8 years air force.
i heard the same about the Navy Lodge. and i think i will just plan on staying through Sunday (- or until they kick me out -- God, i miss him!!)
Hi!! i am flying in from NJ and my family is flying in from Texas (only my mom, brother & sister in law can make it). we are renting a car from o'hare and driving in. from waht i read, it's a 45 - 50 mintue drive to the base. we are still making our accomodations. just don't know yet how long we should plan to stay. do you? i am guessing they allow the weekend.
by the way, division 900 prerequisite includes singing. and from i understand, they had to audition & final decsion is made by commander - we should be very proud.
how do i join the 900 division group? do you have the link? this site is overwheming - i don't even know where to begin!!
When you speak to your husband, ask him if he knows jordan from NJ. :)
yay!! awesome!! i read a bit about division 900 and his recruiter gave me some information. from what i understand, it's a very good division to be in. does your boyfriend and does your husband play any instruments?? my son jordan plays guitar and drums. they division's band doesn't consist of guitar. i just would like to know more about what they are doing. i am on pins & needles waiting for his phone call. i am sure they are friends - my son is mr. charasmatic! this is so great!!
have you made arrangements for graduation??
