Tatally..yup, he called the gf! hahaha!

Ruth and Diannep, is there a way to officially adopt a sailor at PIR?  I was wondering the same thing and even wrote my sr and asked if there will be anyone staying with him at gl for a-school that would like to join us for the weekend.  Wonder if this is possible?

diannep--I'm curious, and you may have explained this pages ago--I see you're a member of many PIR groups, and your son is in Newport News.  Have you become the official "Navy PIR foster mom?" (Nothing wrong with that, just trying to make connections!)  I also see you're a member of the USS T Roosevelt group.  That's the ship my son was on.

As far as adopting those sailors, they will love it!  After my son's PIR, we went downtown, but also to the mall sometime that weekend.  I found myself smoothing a collar or picking a piece of lint off a sailor's uniform!  Everyone of them that I "accosted" thanked me for being "mom" for a minute.  I've even been known on a Friday at O'Hare to step in the front of the line at Starbucks and buy coffee for the grad n go sailors.  Eventually, encourage your sailors to use the USO when they need it.  We are supporters of that organization since they've helped our son when he's missed a flight or arrived somewhere too late for transportation--something to eat and a couch to sleep was always available.

1proudmomma: Thanks for the chuckle!  I love it!  I'm sure you will all be laughing about that one for years to come!!!

My dtr has said the same thing about the div struggling so its good to hear that it is normal.  I know its extremely difficult on there end!

Went to Michaels Craft store today and picked up an album that had US Navy on it, most times you can get a coupon from online for 40-50% off of a regular priced item, but this time the albums were already on sale, so my coupon didn't work, but I was impatient and bought it anyway, it was 25% which still saved me some money.

I was thinking the album would make a nice gift for them to start putting in their certificates and pictures now that they are on their military career path and then I found a smaller album that holds 4x6 pictures on line at another site and it wood with the words "military memories" on it and in there I have made her a mini album of when she was DEP, pictures of the recruiters in the office that she joined, also once she was sworn into DEP I got pictures of it and then of course the regular swearing in ceremony right before she left for Great Lakes, unfortunately, my pictures of her going away dinner got lost so I can't put those in there, but I will include pictures of the family and friends that will be in Chicago to see her and of the weekend that we are able to spend with her (hopefully), but I thought I would pass along an idea for those of you that are still trying to figure out what to get for your loved one for graduation.  I have included some pictures hopefully they turn out okay, I know the one is kind of blurry, but I am sure you all get the idea of what I am trying to do...

I'm such a rookie at all of this I don't even know what an "RS" would be!?!?!

I need to check out a book.....or something.....  ha ha.

Comment by diannep on April 19, 2011 at 5:14pm

1ProudMomma:  LOL!  Ok, the "RS" was hysterical...I'm sure she is just getting razzed a bit...  :-)

Loved what navyvet said below....great way to explain it.  Think of that when you are watching your sailor's division march into the hall at PIR.  Because it will be hard for you to believe that just a few short weeks before, they were arguing, rebeling, disagreeing, etc....it is an amazing transition!

ProudMomma she will still get her mail, might get some grief over her rank, but the most important part is her last name ship and division.

As far as a the divisions go they will come together as a team regardless of themselves. It does take time, imagine putting a pack of alpha males/females together they need to figure out they are not the top dog the RDC's are and then it goes on down the chain of command. Respecting themselves and each other helps make them a great team, but they all go in with an alpha attitude because it takes that type of personality to make it in the military.
