If my calculations are correct our sailors should be starting their week 3 day 2 tomorrow (Monday), Just wish the days would pass a bit more quicker, they seem to be taking forever before May gets here.

We will be flying from Seattle for the PIR, are they any others in this group that live here in the Pacific Northwest?

Well, no phone call today from my son in Div 811. Anyone else?  I guess that no news is good news! :)

Ruth, Gun's Mom, the Ramada Meet & Greet is different from Anastasia's Restaurant.  The M&G at the Ramada is free to all Navy friends and family.  There is no cost.  Those who are staying at the Ramada also get 2 free drink coupons.   They will have wonderful hot hor'douerves at that one.  A lot of the Navy4Moms family and friends go to it.  It's always held the night before PIR from 6-8p.m.

Some of the PIR groups do decide to do a private M&G at Anastasia's Restaurant.  This is totally separate and privately set up.  At Anastasia's you will be paying for whatever you eat and drink and it is a smaller place than the room at the Ramada.

I just copied this from the facebook RTC discussion page for this PIR date.  Also a mom posted a meet n greet at Anastatia's Restaurant in Waukegan.  Is this different that the Ramada one, or is the restaurant connected?  I'm sending her a message to ask, too.

Actually, yes — all the recruits are on the same writing schedule. They are able to begin writing the first Sunday they are in their ships. When they are on holiday routine from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sundays, they can use that time to write. After about three weeks, they are given additional time on Tuesdays and Thursdays to also write.

Everyone should always keep in mind that the recruits' noses are in the training guides at every possible moment. During their very limited free time they are free to write, shine shoes, hygiene, iron, study, etc. Many choose to study.

Encourage your recruit to study hard so they will do well on their tests and most important of all: write to them as often as you can. They might not be able to write as much as you would like them to, but they most certainly look forward to the highlight of their day: Mail call!

LOL, he'd love that, but he also has to watch his weight--he eats super healthy.  So it's probably just as well that no one sends goodies!

Hang in there, Proud Navy Moms!  Before you know it, you will get to pack that suitcase.  My favorite part of boot camp graduation--seeing the "graduate swagger!"  I can't wait either!

Let's just hope that spring will finally appear at GL by May 20th.  I'm on the other side of the state, and it's just 49 degrees.  GL is colder with the breeze off the lake.  Brr. I want warm weather!  My son graduated 23 April 2004, and it was cold that day.  We caught the Metra downtown; had a great time, but it was cold.  Hopefully, another month will make a big difference.

BarnGoddess:  What your SR writes home is not censored nor read by anyone there.  You may find that your SR is up and down...at different times.  Just know if you get a "down" letter, the "up" mood probably was in place by the time you received the letter!  It is an emotional rollercoaster for the SRs....and for the families on here!

Well, Ruth, I think you should list your son's favorite goodies here so that ladies who just HAVE to send care pkgs (which they know they aren't suppose to do!)...could send your son's favorite things and at least know that your son got to enjoy them!  :-)

It might be helpful to read the discussion about boot camp week by week.  You'll understand the change in attitude as they write.  They can write every Sunday afternoon and when not on "duty" according to my son.  He would love care packages with goodies because he'd be one of the instructors who'd get to eat them in front of your recruits--so don't send anything but letters!

The first couple of weeks of BC are the hardest and your SR's are getting beyond that stage now.  As they get further along in BC, they are getting settled in a little more and you will see a change in the tone of their letters.  They are getting more used to their routine, probably making new friends and are probably more sure of their decision by now.  You will see that reflected in their letters. They are probably getting excited about their accomplishments by now, with inspections, PFA's and any tests that they have had.  The first few weeks of uncertainty and the unknown have now passed, so they are probably becoming more confident.
