Thanks for the warm welcome ladies. I love that we all have this site to go to. My son is going to Nuke. We are all so proud of him. I have 2 older sons in college. My oldest is going for his Phd for music education. My 2nd oldest is graduating Buffalo next month with a business degree. He's talking about enlisting too. My youngest is 17 (graduates next summer) and plans on joining the navy. He wants to fly. Already in BOCES in flight school. I'm so proud but getting grayer by the minute. At my age I thought the next stage of my life would be grandma... that's a long way off now...lol Instead of getting married to their girlfriends, they are marrying the military... great career choice but scares the heck out of me. I'll have to keep on working..working..working.. There's plenty of time to bounce grandbabies on my knees...

I have always heard that each sailor has their own schedule for after PIR (they do not have whole Divisions doing the same thing). So some sailors in one Division may be grad and go, others may not be. It all depends on the schedule the Navy has set up for them. Maybe I have been informed incorrectly though. From what I have read, only your sailor can tell you if they are grad and go or not because only they know their own schedule.

mikesproudmom - I'm confused... my husband is in div 189, his A school will be in GL. I was under the impression that 'Grad & Go' meant that those individuals would be leaving after graduation, but my husband is sticking around GL. Urgh, just when I think I have it figured out!

Also, hopefully I'll be starting PT (physical therapy) school within the year! I wish your daughter the best of luck... it's such a rewarding field!

My boyfriend wants to continue on to get his Master's degree also! He would like to even go as high as getting his PhD. He was hoping that the Navy would be able to pick up the tab for this higher learning. I'm proud of our recruits for following their dreams!

Aren't you happy you won't have to go through this twice? I'm glad your daughter has found her niche. I have also found mine as an Accountant. I am a junior at WNEC with an internship set up with KPMG. I hadn't considered the military until my boyfriend did. I was thinking about maybe putting in an Officer application, but who knows.

My recruit also went in as E3 with a BA in English (hence why he joined the Navy... absolutely no jobs with an English degree to pay for all the debt he's in from earning it). His rank is currently STG (Sonar Technician- Surface) but I know he wants to get into some kind of intelligence sector because he can speak Arabic fluently. He really wants to put that attribute to good use. I have heard that the talking amongst themselves (what little there is of it) won't begin until a few weeks in. That would be neat if they were bunk-mates!

My recruit actually tried to become an Officer. He went through all the testing and put in his application, but was not accepted. I have heard the acceptance rate is quite low now to become an Officer. That was a good decision on Mike's part to go into nuke. Amazing bonuses and an integral job.
