Yackie, That is wonderful that you received a call from your son today. I am very happy for you and your husband. Our son sent his father a very touching Father's Day letter. Your husband is a very lucky man to receive a call from his son in BC on Fathers Day.

debbie - we stayed at the Ramada and really liked it, their pillows are wonderful and plenty on each bed too! The only thing that bothered some of us was a smell - to which the mgmt said is because they have carpet in an area that is prone to humidity, but the carpet in the hallways keeps the noise down. It was VERY quiet there, I liked that. Indoor pool and hot tub were great too!

FYI: If taking Ramadas shuttle to PIR, they want you out front at 6:45am, shuttles leave at 7am (they hold about 40 people). They pick you up at 11:30am, almost an hr after ceremony is over. When I heard that, I thought it was a waste of time, but when I experienced PIR, I understood. It takes a while to find your sailor in that huge hall, hug them a million times, then make your way back to where the NEX is and the shuttle area. Also, a lot of recruits will want to run back to their barracks to get their Navy portraits to hand them over to you. It's a BIG base, takes several minutes for them to do this, so the shuttle comes at just about the right time. But if you miss it, you'll need to call a taxi (there were several taxi's waiting in the area). We opted to drive there instead, had no problem getting in and it wasn't a long wait at all. Parked right next to building where you go to check in - but it's because we were there before 7am. I've heard different stories from those who drove in later than us. So consider all sources of info. PRINT PARKING/GATE PASS REGARDLESS! You will need it to bring your sailor back that evening - and to pick him/her up again Sat & Sun - same pass for all 3 days. Print extras in case you lose one. Otherwise your sailor has to walk out to the front to meet you. Hope this helps!

I have a room at the Ramada with the shuttle to graduation in the morning. My room has two double beds, being a single Mom I am coming to graduation myself so if anyone would like to "bunk up" we could split the cost. I'll be checking in Thursday night and leaving Monday afternoon. Free breakfast is included. I thought this might be a good idea because I know I'll only be sleeping there...except maybe all day Friday, the kids will be sleeping there! :)

Hi everyone! By popular demand, I just created a "Grad & Go Info" group. I feel good about answering most questions, but I don't want all the input coming from me - so if you have experience, please jump in. It's not my group, it's everyone's group! I'm counting on my N4M friends (who talked me into this) to help me with it!!

If you have a G&G and have questions, this group will do their best to answer your questions.

I just started it about 45 minutes ago, so I really need others to join. Okay, even if it's just to make me feel better and to give me some company because it's weird seeing only one member!

OK I got some letters Thursday and Friday. He said that THIS week was hell week!! I hope they all did well. He also said that they did the Marlinspikes which is a ship simulator. Battleships are just around the corners and that's the BIG test!! He also said they get to send mail out now on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. THANK GOODNESS!! going a week with no contact is touchier. I'd love to hear if anyone else knows anything else. Let me know : ) OOO and he asked for his cards to get a division shirt, soon I guess.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!! I'm sort of a computer dummy so how do I get the information to you without posting for everyone to see? If you click on my proudnavy_grandmother you can pull me up and ask to be a friend. Will that do it?
