I know individuals don't win war's. I understand teamwork also Hoppi. My son all the way through boot camp helped his shipmates get it together and tried to show them how they needed to do certain things. He even said some get it and some don't. He still didn't give up on them.

They are redoing a couple of hours from 4 to 6 am. My son told us they PASSED BS21 and went on to the cap ceramony. They keep a running tally of the divisions progress before and during BS21. If they knew the division was short on completing the course why give them the caps and then make them do 2 extra hours of BS21 again? He did not say anthing about not graduating but I don't understand this whole thing. When my son called me and told me the situation I asked well are you a sailor? He was upset and could not answer me. He thought he failed us, but we all spoke with him and told him we could not be more proud of him. He really did great in BC and did everything he was told and studied very hard to get passing grades on exams and inspections. Why would they do this to the whole division?

Mom2sailorsx3 - thanks, you're right, no one should stress out over anything. Have a safe and fun trip!

But I would like to remind all of you that your sailor will NOT be with you when you go to pick them up on Sat & Sun morning, so you will need that pass! We had 2 moms who made plans to meet their sailors at the Chapel in the morning, but they couldn't get past the front gate. Finally, their sailors decided to walk to the front gate to see if someone was there. They lost over an hour of time with them! You might have a cell phone, but your sailor doesn't!

Congratulations to everyone. All we can do for division 242 is hope and pray and keep them in our thoughts. I thought I was going to have a good nights sleep tonight to. I know div 242 will not be sleeping well tonight. They are probably so keyed up about this whole thing.

My husband spoke with prior service people and they said that this is standard procedure for RDC types. They always say their never good enough to pass, or as good as other divisions, to be part of the fleet, etc. They want them to feel uncertain right up to PIR. One of the main reasons is so they don't let down and get sloppy. If they could they would push them until they colapse. I hope they right but just wanted to pass info on.

Very strange what some of the divisions are going through regarding BS-21. I've only been on N4M for 2 1/2 months, but I live on this site and have not heard anything as bizzare as making them re-do certain portions of BS-21. We don't have all the facts, but I hope you get some answers.

Meanwhile - it's good to know they did pass and we can keep praying that all will work out for the best. I'm trying to be positive, but I know that if it were my son, I would not be happy.

If you read the Navy's rules on Liberty for PIR weekend (on the Navy's boot camp website) please do not rely on the return times over PIR weekend. Each sailor's return time to RTC (boot camp) is different. My son was a Grad &Go who flew out Saturday. He had to be back to RTC by 8pm Friday night, not 9pm. Another mom who's son had PIR just two weeks ago said that her son was not a G&G but had to be back by 8pm on Friday. Your new sailor will be the one who will inform you what time to have them back - and it needs to be at least a half hour BEFORE the time they are due back in the barracks. It can take up to 30 minutes for them to walk from the NEX/Chapel parking lot to their barracks. If one person in a division is late, the whole group can loose liberty hours the next day! Also - keep that gate/parking pass with you ALL weekend. It allows you to drive into the RTC base as far as the Chapel all weekend - not just on PIR day. Otherwise, your new sailor has to walk even farther to get to barracks.

I have read where some families who plan on taking the shuttle to PIR don't think they need to print the gate pass - but they need to re-think this because they will be dropping their sailor off Friday night - and the rest of the weekend too! Just food for thought.
