Hello Everyone. I am on my lunchbreak and just wanted to say hi to all of you. I got my letter last night with my sons PIR date and it was so silly but I really got choked up seeing his handwriting, how silly is that? To me it meant a lot, I have worried so much that I broke out and I am 37 for goodness sake. I am so anxious for a letter (that I am aware) I may not get. I am so ready for July 20th!!!!! I can't wait to give him a hug and spend some time with him.
AMEN, CTI: FTLW would be a wonderful creator of an Army for Moms website!
You GO, FTLW! :-) Seriously!
No, I know there is FB...but I don't FB. Don't like to use my real name (Now I have been told that you do not have too and have seen Folks use a pseudonym..so any FB Folks who want to educate me...please do so! I won't be switching from this site though...too dear to my heart!)
TY! Are you "voluntelling" me?! LOL
It has crossed my mind...
Are you serious FTLW...there is really no Army for moms website. I was telling a friend who has a daughter going in the army to lok for it online or ask her daughters recruiter for information on it. Maybe you need to build one since you do so well on here. :-)
I hear you about the worry...it doesn't get any easier for each child! For me, I think it has a lot to do with that it is something they want...or even if it isn't...they just want to get launched and we want it so much for them too! My oldest is a Seabee Reservist (PIR was May last year), my middle one now wants to go Army, Calvary Scout, wants it real bad! He had spent the last four years (14-18) learning horsemanship...was going to go for an apprenticeship with a clinician and then dropped the bomb last year that he wasn't sure about doing it as a "business". That he can, but felt it would take away from the enjoyment of it. Boy did I shed some tears over that one! I understood it though and who's to tell that he won't do it someday! He has a gift of being able to teach what he has learned and is the "go to" guy at the ranch he boards his horse at! Has gotten back into some training for others again. Woo-Hoo!
BUT, he dropped another bomb last September about going into the military. More tears (this child and I are rather close, he knows me...still holds my hand ...in public!)...deep breaths! LOL
What can I say? I am excited, sick to my stomach (I know he'll go to the "sandbox" once he's done with training...it's inevitable), scared, proud that he is making decisions about his life, etc!
Then there is just the "worry" of it happening! Like LaLa said, being on here we see so many being separated before the dream happens (soooo not trying to make anyone feel any worse) and I worry about that too. Want it so bad for him and at the same time...nope...I want it for him! LTT (Laughing Through Tears)
You know what really sucks though?
No Army 4 Moms!
Laureen - A belated Welcome to the group from me! Sorry I did not do so yesterday.Thank you for your service. Even though I know you are in the same bost (ha, ha...didn't plan that one!) I am sure you will have more wonderful insight to offer...and we are here for you too!
You are now officially:
TG 36 — 7 Divisions (221–226 & 936) Graduate Friday, July 20, 2012
as per the RTC Website. Congrats!
Ditto what diannep said. Very well put dianne. Keep those letters coming and full of positive encouragement.
For those who are really struggling right now since their SRs left for bootcamp, hang in there. This is an emotional rollercoaster journey...both for you and your SRs.
The first few weeks of bootcamp are very hard because there is lots of screaming, orders being shouted, etc. I read a post once from one sailor who said in the beginning, you don't think you can do anything right at all. This is really the "breakdown" period for your SRs. Remember, all of these SRs are different ages, come from different backgrounds, life experiences, have different expectations, goals, etc. It is up to the RDCs to get all "on the same page" so they can work as a team...so crucial to the military.
This time is very hard and discouraging for them...you may get some letters/calls that break your heart...but try not to worry. It does get better. Usually by Training Week #4 (which is about Bootcamp Week # 5 or 6), things turn around for them. The "buildup" stage is then in place and they have accomplished alot by then. They have their "goal" in sight now. And they know they can do it.
Just remember...they need nothing but encouragement during bootcamp. Sometimes you may be talking to them/writing them through your own tears because your hearts hurt for them. But try not to let them see this as they may just worry about you! Remind them that "A" School is a totally different scenario. They are back in touch with loved ones then and the atmosphere is more like a college campus. It does get much better!
Hang in there. Use this site to vent when you need to. Also, remember...if you get a heartbreaking letter from your SR, it most likely will be that by the time the letter arrived, they are in a better place emotionally. My son would be so negative in his phone calls at times that I thought he wanted to quit. When he finally figured out I was thinking this, he was stunned...told me no way is he quitting, he would get through this and become a sailor. And he did!
So...chins up, ladies. Bootcamp is not meant to be a trip to DisneyLand...and when you see your new sailors at PIR...well, the WOW factor is off the charts! So look forward to that!
Good morning all!
