CTI- I knew the choir would be performing at a couple PIR's before their own and I went to the the other PIR groups and asked the moms there to please please please make me one happy mom by taking a pic of the choir and posting it when they got back from PIR. There were several who were more than happy to do that for me and that is one of the pictures they took. I ended up with 4 or 5 pictures from other moms of my Sailor and I cannot even begin to tell you how wonderful it made me feel to see that picture. It was like proof for me that she was still breathing, walking and of course singing :-) You guys could ask the two PIR groups before your own to take pics for you. I am sure they would be happy to :-)
Michelle - I am so sorry to hear of your daughters injury. I pray for a full recovery for her!
LaLa, How did you get that picture if your daughter wasn't even aware of it? Did someone contact you from basic? Just curious
Well I wondered if they were told they can't smile or something lol. That pic was taken of them performing two weeks before their own PIR. I mailed a copy of the pic to her and the day after she received it she got to make a call. She was shocked that I had that picture and was like how did you get it. I then had to send extra copies for all the other girls from her division in the choir. Two of them ended up getting set back two weeks because one gave the other a cough drop and they were no long in a performing division. So, that picture is the only one they will ever have of them singing in the boot camp choir. They looked much happier in the pics when it was their own PIR :-)
I was supposed to be there to watch my son that day with the helicopter and I got called into work (I'm a Substitute teacher) After see all those pics I was a little relieved I was there in person lol.
I know what you mean Laureen and yes it is that type of rate. At least it is for me. He is a first responder on the rescue squad and is now also on the fire department. He has hiked for hours into the wilderness to rescue people usually from falls with broken bones. He has also done a lot of training and did his Senior Project on helicopters and was pulled out of a river by a cable and pulled up into a black hawk. I have never seen him so excited about a training mission. He absolutely loves that stuff. Here is a pic of him in training.
My Sailor is up front on the right of the mic by the really tall guys lol.
HAPPY NEWS!! Daughter called today for "information call". She was crying which almost got me crying but I didn't, had to be strong for her and reassure her. She reports that today was their first day of training so they haven't done anything but processing so far. She also reported that the 900 div is the performing division so they will be performing at graduation although she wouldn't tell me what they were performing. She also reported she was on light duty for the next 2 days due to the fact that she got some blisters from her boots and didn't want to go to medical so she ended up with an infection, of course being a nurse I had to "fuss" that she not do that. It was so nice hearing her voice. That was all I wanted for now. She said she would be calling me back Friday to get the information she needs so I have something to look forward to. Gosh, I miss my child.
Michelle: So very sorry to hear this and sure hope she heals and is back in soon! Be sure to join the following site for lots of separation info:
http://www.navyformoms.com/group/ship17moms
You can ask questions on there. Separation is a "process" that can take awhile. Those ladies will be helpful.
Blessings to you all!
Thansk so much for your post Laureen, my son is trying to join, has talked to a recruiter a couple times now and is still working out and trying to looses a little bit of weight and studying to retake the ASVAB for a higher score so he can get the rate he want, Air Rescue Swimmer. I think I am more worried about him than I was his sister. When she joined it was only a month from the first mention of it until she was gone to bootcamp and I knew nothing about it. Now after two years on this site and lots of searches I know a lot more and I see a lot of kids get sent home after getting sick or hurt and it just scares me. I too am a worrier. Maybe I am crazy but I worry about how it would affect his self esteem if he could not get through bootcamp when his sister did so well. Maybe I'm just crazy lol.
