Hey, Juliebelle28, how soon after PIR did your sailor travel to Goose Creek?

Comment by MrsSailor-S on May 31, 2012 at 9:27am
My husband shipped out on 5/22. I don't know why I was guessing that his graduation date would be 7/27. (my counting was off I guess). I have gotten the box, but no form letter yet-just anxiously waiting for an address to send off these letters.
Comment by Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor on May 31, 2012 at 9:22am

Savvy, someone should get the form letter from your SR in about a week to 10 days and you should start receiving letters around the 3rd week. Start writing your letters now since they live for mail call.

Either me or his parents. He wasnt quite sure. Can you tell me when we should start getting letters from them? And also i found something on here about free phone cards and got all the info to send to him so he could call, should i expect a call cause i thought after the initial i got here safe one (which i unfortunetly missed due to my son crying) he didnt get to call anymore?

Yes, Savvy:  You are in the right group!  This group should start with Div 221-222 (brother divisions who will train together).

Welcome!

Form letter can arrive anywhere from a few days after they leave to about 10 days-2 weeks later.  They can only mail out one form letter.  Will he mail that to you?

My Fiancee left on the 22nd so I'm pretty sure tis will be his PIR date. He is Ship 07/ Division 222. We've gotten his box, but no form letter, any idea when we should be getting those?

Comment by diannep on May 31, 2012 at 7:37am

Ddresner:  Actually, the 8 weeks of bootcamp should include the processing time.  Training weeks are actually only 6 weeks long (they have a few days after training is over before PIR).  BUT, having said that, this is your group according to the division number you posted.  Looks like he will be at bootcamp for 8 weeks, 2 days!  So....welcome!

Good morning! I am another N4Moms veteran joining to help!  My son has actually now been honorably discharged, but I have been on the PIR groups for so long now that I don't want to leave!  :-) So...I'm here to help!  Thanks, navyknit, for starting the group!

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on May 31, 2012 at 7:04am

Hi everyone, I am Lora, aka Lala the PIR Ribbons Queen from NC. I am one of the veteran moms who spends time on the PIR group pages helping answer any questions you have. I cannot tell you how excited I am for this group to be formed. I have a daughter, 22, who is Sailor in VA. She left for boot camp May 25th and had PIR in July, 23 2010 so I have been on this site for 2 years. Memorial day weekend was her first weekend at boot camp. After boot camp the time goes by so fast. She was just home for 6 days on leave for her brother and step-sisters graduation on Saturday and she just went back to base on Tuesday.  These days have really flown by. I can't believe it has been two years already. Her husband is also a Sailor in VA and his PIR was Oct 2010. We give him a really hard time because she outranks him lol. We have experienced lots of different things through this journey and I am here to help you. If you have any questions at all please ask them here on this page and one of us will do our best to answer it for you.Or you can send me a private message if you like.  My Sailor was in the performing division 936 and was in the choir. For now the best advice is to write letters every day if you can. Even if your SR said not to, do it anyway. They quickly change their mind and love hearing their name called for mail call. It is like Christmas to them and they say the letters are what gets them through the next day. Try not to worry if the first couple of letters seem down or sad. This is normal and it does get better. You will be able to tell a difference in them with each letter you receive. I know this is hard but be strong, you can do this. And on the days when you feel like you can't come to this page and we will help you through it :-) I know you are looking forward to those first letters and calls :-) And I look forward to getting to know all of you and hearing more about your soon to be Sailors :-)

I believe this will be my daughter's as well, she too is ship 02 division 936.  She left on 5/22 and I have already received her box.
