txbabydocmom - That is so nice that you get to see your son on the weekends! I wish! We are in MA, so that's going to happen, I have to just keep checking the days off till he can come home for Christmas! Eventhough we can talk now, I still really miss him.
Navyknit22 - Congrats on your new grandson! how exciting! I pray that your son gets to finish now without any setbacks. I'm guessing by your comment about hanging on to your ticket voucher that it's his choice not to do the graduation? I'm guessing that maybe he just wants to be done and move on, which I understand, but he certainly deserves to have that special day. He's been through more than most to get there! I can only imagine what you have been going through. 8 weeks was long enough, but 16 and counting! You are one strong Mom!
Navyknitt22 - I have been thinking of you. How is your son doing? What is the latest?
Meegan - That is so awesome that you are going to go and see your son this weekend! I'm jealous!! :) My son is at A school Great Lakes and he has also been receiving lots of treats in the mail. My mother-in-law has been very busy baking. My son said that guys said to tell her that she now has more grandsons! I am now counting down the days till he can come home for Christmas. Enjoy your weekend with your son!!!!!
Hello everyone. I am still here just been really busy. I sure miss all of you. Everything went as good as it could tellling my son about his losses. He was shocked and very quiet for quite a few minutes. I just reached out to him and let him allow it to sink in. It was actually scary, he was so quiet. I waited a while and then let him see the articles etc... He was in shock for a few days and then suddnely one night after I got home he called and it was a 2 hour phone call of questions and me telling him every detail about the funerals and what it was like. I have a video of the entire "celeration of life" but he has not wanted to see it so far. Through all that is going on I feel closer than ever to my son. We have always been close and I never thought we could get closer. He is my friend and my son and he amazes me every day, he is a special young man. I miss him so much that I broke down and the phone calls just were not enough so I bought a ticket to go see him this weekend in Great Lakes. He told me that he had Monday off and that was all it took. He also is now in phase 2 so that also helped. I am flying out of Seattle at 8am on Friday and not coming back until Tuesday. I want every second I can get with him. I intended on waiting until he was half way through A-school but did not quite make it. He graduates on November 15th. I asked him the other day ahow he was doing and he said Great! I asked him if he was still happy with his decision and he laughed and said Why wouldn't I be? I was afraid b/c there was a couple Mom's that mentioned that their Sailors were homesick and having regrets. That scared me. It turned out that the few there were came out of it. Probably just a little overwhelmed. Well, How are all yours doing? Where are they now? School? already got orders? Wow, what an exciting time. Oh yah! I got together with some friends and we made about 30 dozen cookies and mailed them to the base for my Son to pass out to everyone he could. My brother sent about 6lbs of Jerky and that was shared also. I hope enjoyed getting some home made goodies.
The group is ... Great Lakes A School Q&A
txbabydocmom - please post this on the GL A SCHOOL Group. I just sent this info to my son. I've been telling him the A School vets talk about theft and he said he feels safe and trusts people. I keep telling him that everyone does not hold the same values as us.
It's hard. We - most people - put our military on a pedestal but in the long run, they are just people. Not all people have integrity and character. Having your wallet stolen feels violating - Hope your son gets everything taken care of quickly with no repercussions.
Meegan: How did it go with you breaking the news to your sailor? I know that all of us have been thinking about this/praying for you. Hoping that it was a bittersweet time...of lots of hugs and talks.
Does anyone have pics of ship division 226 to post. According to the facebook page for weekly pics, their has been a change in the public affairs recently, and it doesnt sound like any pics will be posted of pir grad for 7/20/2012. My camera happen to not work, so this proud grandma doesnt have anything to look at. A close up video would be great also.... let me know where you post it, thanks to all
