Singingbird - That is good advice. I will check into that.
Patrat - I know! It was our 1st letter, I ripped it open and told the family I would read it out loud. I had to stop after the 3rd sentence because he started off with those words. I took it to my room and cried with pride! One of my bosses has 2 sons in the military (Army&AF) she told me I would receive the most beautiful letters. Didn't believe her since our son wasn't much for writing. Each letter has said something that makes me cry - we've received 6 so far. Those will stop soon once he gets in the A-school grove and can text, phone or email more.
Julie - Ok, I just cried after reading what your son wrote to you in his letter. He sounds like an awesome person! Just one more reason to be proud of him:)
Well, at least they can lock them up. I will make sure I mention to my son.
The family who came had a huge group/team and it was a Type I, so likely was not your relation. You should check it out goto www.fsma.org/coloradowalk2012. you can forward the link to them.
We will really miss having my son there this year, and next year, and the next year... He is always a huge help! Guess we all better get used to those types of events without our SAILOR around!
Julie: It was not my cousin who came here last year for the walk, at least I don't think so, but I am going to ask. He is my first cousins grandson (so a first cousin once removed)
My sons PIR was 4/20 and yes I am in CO.
Yes, unfortunately there is theft in A School. My son and his roommates had a room inspection in dress whites because his roommate goofed and left his foot locker open when he went to school. They do check and the lockup of valuables is taken seriously.
The forecast for this week looks pretty clear! Let's hope it stays that way.
Time to get the suitcases out and start packing! Dont forget to print your gate pass, maps and directions for restaurants, site-seeing and hotel (if you don't have a smart phone that is).
ellen0502(Son @ A School GL) Hi Ellen0502 - Billings is in the Rocky Mtn Chapter region - they are part of our chapter. A family from Billings came to Denver for our walk last year. give it some thought. Friend me and I will give you the info. So you must be from Colorado too? What div is your SR in?
Sad there is a lot of theft in A School. You would think the ethics of the military way would have a positive affect on people, and sway them away from stealing from your team-mate. Guess you can't teach everyone the value of trust and honesty.
mrsSR: Yes, still alot of theft in A School...so they have to lock all up. My son's roommate got in trouble for leaving something out as he just went to use the bathroom down the hall. They must keep all locked up! He will learn very quickly to lock everything up.
Most of them have to pay for wi fi in their rooms. If their roommate already has it, they can split the cost. Check this out on his A School group on this site with the ladies there.
Last letters usually should be sent a week before PIR. They do forward the mail, but it doesn't always arrive. If you want to write after that, copy the letters and take them with you to PIR just in case! :-) Since PIR is in just 5 days here, I would copy those you may send, but it is getting very close to the time they won't receive them!
Got a letter from my SR yesterday. He said that he was supposed to do BS on the date that we predicted, and was expecting to be able to call on Friday. His letter did sound a little bit more light harted than the others, and he was even making jokes in this letter which is refreshing. I think that they're starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and are just ready to be done. I'm sure that they've all bonded together and have been a support system to each other, as have you all here been to me! :-)
When will you guys send your last letters? I'm going to send my sunday letter out with the mail tomorrow. I just want to make sure he gets a letter every single day until we see him. :-)
Also, do you guys know if there is a lot of theft in the A-School setting. I imagine that anyone who stole anything would get in major trouble. My SR wants me to bring him a laptop, but we have two. Of course he wants the better more expensive one, but we also have one that works just fine that's not as expensive that I can send him. If it does get stolen, or there is a high chance of that, I'm going to give him the less expensive one. How does wifi work in a-school? Is it in their rooms or only in the common areas?
Thanks navyknit - and as a chocoholic myself...I would like to request one of those cakes please!
